Awesome Experience, As Always
on April 15, 2015

I defected to a cheaper alternative for my 2013 taxes and what a train wreck. So, I came back to Turbo Tax in 2014 and I'm glad I did. I don't think I'll ever leave!
What's great about it: Easy to use, intuitive, gets better each year
What's not so great: None

What's great about it: The program did walk me through everything
What's not so great: Difficult to go back. I had to "re-answer" a lot of questions.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Incomplete forms
on April 15, 2015

Have had my e-file rejected three times so far. All on account of technical errors. Can't figure a way to override the TT form entries to avoid the bounce backs.
What's great about it: Walk-through of impossible IRS rules/regs
What's not so great: No way to correct mesenteries on misc forms

The color of the button fill makes reading the test hard on my laptop. When I got to the medical deductible sedition I did not realize there was so many fields to fill in. The billings from the different facilities do not break out the different amounts..
What's great about it: The software does a good job.
What's not so great: Mionr problems in medical filing

5th Year Using TurboTax
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: LDRII
This is at least my 5th year using TurboTax. The 1st couple of years I also did my taxes the old fashion way (paper/pencil/calculator) just to make sure the numbers came out the same. TurboTax actually showed me somethings that I missed. Now that life is more complicated (kids, new jobs, more cars, raises, buying & selling homes) I let TurboTax do all the calculations. The only problem I had this year was with the wording on Settlement Papers for the old & new houses not matching exactly with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Simple step, by step directions. Does all the calculating. Prints the forms and worksheets you need. Compares years.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Personal Asst was a life saver

I am hopeful that next years returns will go more smoothly now that this is set up and can be downloaded into following years. Your Online call team was so calm and patient with me even though it was the 11th hour and counting. I was really surprised at the short 35 min wait and I really appreciate the call back feature that holds your place in line so you don't waste you battery while on hold. Thank you!
What's great about it: Phone asstant was fantastic! [Magtias]He was so friendly, patient & kind as I stumbled through my first solo return.
What's not so great: the do it your self Q & A section was sometimes more confussing then helpful.

Easy enough to use, but FAR TOO EXPENSIVE!
on April 15, 2015

Easy enough to follow, once you get the hang of it. But the price for the software is getting outrageous, so I will look into other choices next year.
Some areas are really hard to figure out, like questions about IRAs. I am too young to take distributions from 3 IRAs, but am forced to take distributions from an Inherited IRA. It's difficult to discern what IRA TT is asking about, the one I'm taking distributions from, or the total of all. In one case, it asked for total amount in IRAs. When I entered the total for all, my tax amount on top shot up. Why would the amount in a non-Roth IRA that I am NOT taking distributions from change my taxes? So I changed it to the total in the one I'm taking distributions from and the added tax went away.
Other areas like foreign tax on investments are also impossible to figure out, or you go thru pages and pages of questions, only to find it didn't apply. Waste of time!
What's great about it: Easy enough to follow
What's not so great: Some areas hard to follow, like IRAs, foreign tax on investments
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good, Relatively Painless, could be better
on April 15, 2015

I've been using TurboTax for many years and at this point, it would be painful to switch. The year to year tracking (carry overs, IRA, etc.) is very helpful and worth the price. It's gotten better over the past few years in handling employer stock options and restricted stock or restricted stock units. That's *very* nice. However, there's a real trend to minimize the help included with the program. Most queries go to Intuit's website and I don't particularly care for that.
What's great about it: Stock plans with employers, year-to-year tracking
What's not so great: Help becoming pretty minimal, Extra Costs
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
