Cons about preparing my 2014 Tax return
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: Freedaz
I used Turbo Tax again after not using it for about 10 years.
Upon working with imported data from financial institutions, I found some data reported twice. T. Tax calculated the duplicated numbers and produced high, incorrect tax due. I had to find errors and correct. T Tax should separate duplicated data !
Also, some imported "Wash sale" data was imported by financial institution (Proceeds from broker and barter exchange transactions) caused me days of unnecessary error checking because ,together, the total proceeds amounted to $33.71 -- AND were never reported by the institutions.
Turbo Tax should have a specific process in the software to account for/dismiss imported data which are "non-covered securities transactions".
What's great about it: The known Pros
What's not so great: Extranious data downloaded electronically
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Problems with Seller Financed Mtg Smart worksheet
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: djordantx
Unable to enter "Inherited" as date of purchase on Seller financed form. Inherited could be keyed in to worksheet, but fails in final review as invalid date. Could not enter buyer's Fed Id instead of SSN.
A mistake was made in entering buyer 's address #city/state/zip#. was entered all on address line. Unable to delete this from worksheet even though form was deleted entirely. When form was re entered, up pops the error data on the Smart Worksheet and not carried over to step by step prompt. If entered on step-by-step, it was then on worksheet twice and included in calc of tax twice.
Should be able to correct most data up until form is sent to IRS. I may have switched from Forms to Step-by-Step, this could have aggravated the problem.
Otherwise excellent overall product. Will definitely use again.
What's great about it: Over all Turbo-Tax is still a solid product that I will continue to use.
What's not so great: Forced upgrade to Premier version should have been avoided.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: Provided the guidance and advice I've come to expect from TT. Brought last years data in comparison and ease of entry.
What's not so great: Did not like that it made me buy premier to enter the simplest of 1099-B data.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It is not clear how to file the state by mail. And when you do get to that point you get another copy of the Federal, which you don't want because you E-filed it and printed it it with "save your returns".
What's not so great: Filing state by mail

User friendly
on April 15, 2015

The user-friendly mode that TurboTax (TT) uses gives a sense of confidence in performing this annual task.
What's great about it: Investments are confusing, TT makes flub-up corrections easy
What's not so great: Could expand more on tax jargon explanations.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

a) Appears in the dropdown list. Once selected and on entering the logon information, displays message "Import unsuccessful......"
b) when entering the investments sold, when trying to switching categories (between boxes 1d and 1e) did not work correctly. Also not deleting the last row if selected and attempted to delete.
What's not so great: unable to import from ETRADE
