Easy To Use
on April 15, 2015

I have used Turbo Tax for Federal & State taxes since 2011 I find it complete and easy to understand. I would have given it 5 STARS except this upgrade 2014 version could NOT find my history of previous filings with them even though my name, address, email address and SS# had not changed & I had been doing it online with them for 3 previous years. Other than that and the extra info I had to input because of it I think it's the best way to file taxes, even more complicated ones like mine with rental property.
What's great about it: Clear, easy to understand
What's not so great: non, except it couldn't find my 2013 filing

Last Minute Hero

Although I was able to import some data from my financial institutions, I wasn't able to do others and had to manually enter them. I own 50% of a rental property with my brother. He has a professional do the tax form for his share. Although, I enter the same figures as on his form, TurboTax never computes the property depreciation the same as his preparer. It's always less by a few hundred dollars.
What's great about it: Simple
What's not so great: I wasn't confident in the import function.

Comprehensive But Easy Tax Prep
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: NACL94577
The software is comprehensive enough to handle the vast majority of tax situations, but it is easy enough for someone with no knowledge of tax preparation to use. I'd recommend TurboTax to anyone.
What's great about it: Comprehensive, step by step instruction. Detailed help and explanation is a bonus.
What's not so great: Using the step by step instruction takes a long time, but it is worth it.

The price was substantially higher this year and the product did not tell me there were updates until I was already finished filling out both federal and state forms. Then it took five times to install the updates.
What's not so great: Took five times to download the updates
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Option to decline credits should be available
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: Flagnau
The software is great but it should be easier to decline the EIC and other unwanted tax credits. An option to decline such credits should be made available instead of rerouting people to the same questions if they qualify for credits they aren't interested in taking.
What's great about it: great software
What's not so great: too difficult to decline unwanted credits
Pros: I bought or sold investments
