Good product
on April 15, 2015

Have used TT for several years and have always been happy with the product. Your change in the program content this year should have been avoided or rolled out in a better manner.
What's great about it: Step by step and good customer support
What's not so great: Failure to access credit card payment page/requiring customer support to get authorization code

Still great, but what gives!
on April 15, 2015

Been a regular Deluxe user. Was close to switching to HR. Last minute upgraded to Premier due crippling of Deluxe for investments. Lot of extras I didn't want to pay for. Still a good product.
What's great about it: Consistently a good product
What's not so great: Shafted customers with rebranding deluxe product

Need to improve MLP Sales Features
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: KenWantsUpdates
My main frustrations this year had to do with entering a sale of a MLP, specifically KMP. Specifically, I marked the box during the interview that the partnership interest liquidated, but it did not flow to the K-1 Additional Information. Also, the interview does not allow splitting the Capital Gain between S-T and L-T. There are literally hundreds of questions and pages of answers and discussions about this in the TurboTax forums of people all wishing that this could be done. I did the override in the form, but it doesn't carry thru to the tax return. Fortunately for me, there is no benefit for me to classifying the gain as L-T because any would be benefit is eliminated by AMT, so it doesn't matter that it is technically incorrect. Anyway, please fix it.
Second, some of my broker 1099B items came into the wrong "box" and there is a check box with button to change the category; unfortunately, you can click it, but it doesn't work.
Considering that we are buying the Premium Version, it needs to be able to do these things.
What's great about it: Liked ESPP functionality; uploading 1099's; general UI
What's not so great: Issues with MLP Sale; Issues reclassifying 1099B Transactions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Import from Quicken still needs work
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: nangles
I imported my data from Quicken, then got a bunch of messages about medical expenses, showing an amount, then another amount, then asking me whether to replace the first amount with the second amount, or add the second amount, or ignore it. Something like that, anyway.
But there's no indication what these amounts are, or where they come from. Are they from last year's return? Are they from Quicken (in 2014? Something else? The numbers shown don't match the numbers I get when I run a report in Quicken. For example, if I run the tax year's expenditures for "prescriptions" (i.e., medicine), I get totals that differ from what TurboTax proposes. A real mess.
I've probably used TurboTax for more than 20 years, and the import feature has been like this all along. Don't just throw a bunch of numbers at me! Tell me -- exactly -- where they come from!
What's great about it: Great guidance in the step by step view
What's not so great: Can't understand the amounts when importing from Quicken
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good way to file
on April 15, 2015

I have used Turbo Tax to prepare my returns for about 30 years so obviously I am a fan. I do like almost everything about it. However I do wish there was more human support to help guide through difficult technical or tax issues.
What's great about it: Step by step method, accuracy, updating
What's not so great: not enough human support for difficult situations
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Less and less confident
on April 15, 2015
Posted by: tty07artefact
I still like the guided interview and the option to go directly to sections if I know what to look for, but I went through multiple times and got no errors, but upon reviewing and asking another user to review it too multiple errors were uncovered that the software did not alert me to. Now I am very uncertain that I could use this on my own and get my taxes done correctly.
What's great about it: guided experience, flexibility to go to specific sections
What's not so great: low confidence in accurate results
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments
