Turbo Tax

I was totally relying on Turbo Tax for consistency but I noticed my daughter's date of birth incorrectly which scared me. Luckily my wife noticed and we corrected me. That got me worried about reliability of data entered by Turbo Tax
What's great about it: Fast, helpful, easy to use
What's not so great: Typed my daughter's date of birth wrong
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I've used Turbotax every year since 1995. Don't know what I would do without it. Used to use printed books and forms, never again.
What's great about it: User friendly. Systematic organized approach. Carryover of previous years' info.
What's not so great: Hmmmmm?

I like the product, but you could make it a lot better with a few tweaks. Showing last year's data after you enter this year's data forces you to pull and review last year's return in order to remember how you entered unusual items where if you showed last year's data when you first "visit" an item instead of after, it would improve the experience. Also if you already know an answer to a question for prior years' info, why ask it with no prompt for the previous year data carried forward into this year's return. Specifically you ask for 529 plan contributions life to date and I have to look it up EVERY YEAR I use turbotax and then you show me that I reported $XXX,XXX through 2013 because you transferred last year's info. Don't make me look it up and then have the audacity to show me that it agrees with what I entered last year, just show it to me and ask me if it is right and what this year's amount is that needs to be added to it. Why do I need to look up ten years' data if you already have it???? Your health insurance question for S Corp shareholder with k-1s should be a separate question as it is too easy to miss where to add it and a search does not answer the question. If there are any health care premiums for an S corp shareholder that need to be deducted on line 29, it is always a big deduction so make it easy to find where to enter it.
What's great about it: step-by-step is good
What's not so great: does not show previous year data until you have already entered this years data

Doesn't allow you to input things like deductions based on an estate. And the "Source of 1099-MISC." page only gives one two options, and neither fit for anyone (and I've seen a lot of others in the same boat) who, for example, own mineral rights, but not the property.
Formerly a good product, but even upgrading from the Deluxe to the Premier did not help. Glad I didn't waste any money on the upgrade!
Needs more fixin'!

Amazingly direct and well designed interface. Help and explanations at every turn. Almost made doing taxes fun. Almost.
One link to explain something was page not found. Got my answer anyway via help menu.
I am impressed.
What's great about it: direct and well designed interface
What's not so great: One link to page not found.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Can't Live Without It

Taxes is one of the few guarantees in life. TurboTax makes this guarantee a lot simpler.
What's great about it: Very intutive. Asks questions in everyday terms anyone should be able to understand.
What's not so great: So many costs and options between the various versions of Turbo Tax.

Still need some help

I still have a problem seeing last year's file and a number in a position on the return and knowing which TTax question that number was answering. I always want my newest return to jive with my old one whenever possible.
I guess I'm asking for you to create a file which would allow me to highlight a number on my return and show just where the question I answered to get it was located in the Easy Step process. Make sense?
What's great about it: Easy to start, specially with last year's return on file. Accurate, never been challenged by IRS.
What's not so great: Still hard to find how the answers to filing questions are placed on forms.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
