Put together the return at my pace
on April 14, 2015

Enjoy doing the turbo Tax return at my pace. I wish more banks would make it easier to down load their statements
What's great about it: You can chip away at the return for months and stop anytime
What's not so great: Some of the self-guided stuff likes to repeat and would be nice to avoid

Generally I quite like turbotax. However, two features this year were absolutely maddening. First, I needing to amend my 2013 return, and right near the end the software has a feature that on the surface seems to allow one to amend a return. So I clicked on this, but it effectively erased by 2014 return - and the many many hours it took to get to that point - and there was no way for me to retrieve the "regular" return. In hindsight, I realize this feature is for someone post-April 2015 to go back and amend their 2014 return, but this is far from clear. "Amend a return" is not a good label for this feature! I lost countless hours of work, and had to restart my return from scratch.
The second issue: anything related to buying stock in LLPs, I realize in hindsight, is obscenely complicated. My miniscule amount of shares in KKR easily doubled the time it took to file my return. While much of that is on the government, the support within Turbotax for all the arcane tax form entries related to the LLP tax treatment is miserably lacking - I kept getting stuck in these endless loops where the software was asking me a question that I had no idea how to answer, all for an entry that had $1 or $2 of income. Very frustrating. I would suggest either ramping up the in-software support for this stuff markedly, or dropping support for it entirely.
What's great about it: I generally like turbotax
What's not so great: Amended return feature; K-1 (lack of) support
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

Some of the interfaces have gotten easer to use, but now when you remember a form you forgot to enter and go back, enter it then want to go thru the next steps, it jumps ahead to you where you started from.. not helpful at all,, now you have to look figure out what parts you need to not miss. The old softwear you could go back and start again without skipping a beat, This is what is called Softwear Bloat! and my loptop touch pad is now locking up when only this program is running.. Very poor programming on this version..
What's great about it: works
What's not so great: its locking up my touch pad which has never happened before

A pain in the neck to find solution to simple prob

I found most of the process of filing taxes pretty easy and straight-forward: get the stuff together, fill out the easy form page, and move on.
But- I got an error that seemed absolutely impossible to solve- it asked that i change a value in a (non essential) worksheet on my state return- and the value was calculated. Wha???
After reading online, hunting through the help, and so on (for a couple hours), I realized that since the worksheet wasn't required (and I didn't need it anyway), I could just DELETE it.
Why wasn't there anything in the product, on the help/support pages, etc. to tell me this? Such a complete, absolute, utter waste of time!
What's great about it: does the job
What's not so great: really hard to solve errors

I've used turbotax for 10 years and have had good experience every year except this one. I would have liked turbotax to offer more tips and suggestions.
What's great about it: Normal entries are straight forward.
What's not so great: More complex entries were confusing and turbotax didn't help much.
