issue Capital Gains worksheet
on April 14, 2015

Unable to delete/correct an incorrect capital gains worksheet. The entries were correct, but the worksheet form kept asking for inappropriate line entries. The line entries would not accept zero. Caused repeated errors that prevented E-file, after I paid for it! Thanks for the warning, Not. Worst experience I've had in 10 years plus of using Turbotax. I do like the cloud backup though.
What's not so great: Could not delete capital gains worksheet

TurboTax makes income tax language understandable to the layman. It greatly simplifies filling out the forms. I love the way it searches out every deduction that you are qualified to take.

Problems with Affordable Care Act section
on April 14, 2015
Posted by: TurboBugs
I am retired and have health conditions that make me ineligible for health insurance outside of the Affordable Care Act. My income is such that we do NOT qualify for any premium credits. However, the HUGE monthly premiums I pay out of pocket should be counted as a medical deduction just as with any regular health insurance policy. TurboTax did NOT want me to enter these premiums in the normal medical deduction section but told me to wait till the health insurance section. All that section did was concentrate on the premium credits, (of which I have none) but did NOT calculate the premiums I paid as deductions. At the very least, the software should recognize when premium credits calculate to $0 and then enter the premiums paid into the medical deductions section or automatically take you to that section to enter the data manually.
Also, the State of Iowa section has flaws. Even though I entered Married filling jointly on the federal section, the state of iowa forms/questions mistakenly assumed we were married filling separately. I found no easy way to fix this, as all this information is copied from the federal form, which was correct. Very annoying! Additionally when printing out the completed state forms, the program printed all the federal forms over again. These two problems existed in last year's software as well. Please fix these bugs. Thanks.
What's great about it: Great on Federal and deductions
What's not so great: Affordable Care Act section incomplete and Bugs in State of Iowa section

Previous years had a "File by Mail Instructions for your 20XX Federal Tax Return". It had a payment schedule below the header of the form. It was very useful helping keep track of the Estimated tax payments. Why did you eliminate it???

Problems with IOWA return
on April 14, 2015
Posted by: RobertEH
(1) After leaving a step-by-step to go to forms to check something, one could not later easily return to the same place later without going through many screens to get there.
(2) Instructions for completing IOWA Depreciation Accumulated Adjustment Schedules for 2013 was very poor and down right convfussing. I expected it to be in proved for 2014. But it wasn't. It is every as bad, perhaps even worse since you need to consider even more data. The state depreciation data entered for 2013 should have carried over to 2014, but it was not.
(3) Requiring one to provide a nickname different to all others, when you claim you only want a review, drops my opinion of your intent and likelyhood anything will be done to correct software short comings.
What's great about it: Similar to past years
What's not so great: Difficulty to pick a spot in step-by-step viewing without haveing to go through 20+ screens to get there.

Dick's Review

I have been using TT for more than 20 years. The major flaws are visibility/transparency and search. Cannot see the "big picture," and I cannot get to what/where I want to go... search is primitive and limited.
What's great about it: Simple, easy, connected, thorough, trusted
What's not so great: No visibility/transparency - limited review options - limited search

Local Return Mistakes
on April 14, 2015
Posted by: tommy8456
City of Grand Rapids MI Abbreviations the were entered wrong by turbo tax would've owed an additional $1100! I had to go and correct the abbreviation so that the return would recognize the local taxes that had already been withheld from income
What's great about it: good fast federal filing
What's not so great: wrong local code for city taxes
Pros: I bought or sold investments
