If Federal e-filing is free, why not the State? Bank processing fees are excessive Only the rich can continue to afford it. Do something about it.
What's great about it: I do not know what i would do without Turbo Tax. Oh what a time and life saver.
What's not so great: The cost of the software and the cost of e-filing state returns.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

2014 Federal Return

I've used Turbo Tax for 15 years and will not be using it in the future. I had problems with the online software last year and this year I was disappointed in Turbo Tax support options. I had a simple 401K IRA rollover and the explanations and help included in the program was difficult to understand and follow. When trying to find out how to contact a person, it seemed like the programmers did their very best to hide the way to contact a person rather than use the community to answer questions. Very disappointed in the product.
What's not so great: Turbo Tax help features; IRA rollover information
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

2014 Turbo Tax

2014 was slightly easier than 2013 because I was more familiar with Turbo Tax. It still is a little technical in the descriptions and could be in more layman's terms. Comparing last years and this years tax answers the outcomes are similar which is probably a good sign.
What's great about it: Importing investments and W-2, autofill worksheets
What's not so great: Can't easily view forms

Better than paying a tax accountant

My brokerage is Merrill Lynch and they informed me of the change to rules effective Jan 1, 2014 that they had to follow for employee stock option handling. This handling meant they did not submit inflated amounts for taxes and fees paid. I called Merrill Lynch for guidance and they informed me not to enter the amounts on the tax statement for several large transactions. These changes resulted in my not over paying several thousands of taxes for short and long term gains.
What's great about it: Hits all the key areas with good guidance except (see cons)
What's not so great: Handling of employee stock options under new 2014 rules not complete
Pros: I bought or sold investments

A Breeze to Use buy Expensive!

Overall a good experience except that I purchased the Deductions and Homeowners Deluxe version only to find out at the last minute that I had to pay more in order to complete a stock and capital gains transaction. I was not happy especially since I had to pay more than I paid for the Deluxe version!
What's great about it: User Interface was simple making software easy to use
What's not so great: Additional Cost to file for Capital Gains transaction
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
