Turbotax did a poor job for the 2014 tax year.

I have been using Turbotax since at least 1996 with only minor complaints. However, this year, although I dealt with a return which was clearly more involved, I found that the program was generally much more buggy that in prior years and many of the directions were more ambiguous. Upon returning to a particular area after having previously entered figures,I found that those figures had disappeared. This year I dealt with rental property within a residence as well as a home office in that residence. The program did a very poor job of dealing with the issues involved. Basically, I had to work around the inadequacy of the program and its ambiguous questions and instructions. The work-arounds took several unnecessary hours to accomplish. The inadequacies of the program would seem very easy for your technicians to fix and should not have appeared in the first place.

Was easier than prior years

What's great about it: It was easier to go back and forth between both taxes
What's not so great: Nothing Major was a breeze
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Gets the job done but with consultation

I've been using TT for over 10 years and regarded it highly for most of those years. The last few I've been "fortunate" enough to qualify for AMT. Unfortunately, I am not 100% confident in the AMT returns as I was in the non-AMT returns. The reason is that TT asks AMT questions with little or even no explanations to help the non-tax professional discern the meanings of the questions. For example, there is a question about adjustments to investment income for AMT purposes. How am I supposed to know without an explanation, just exactly what that means? Is this about dividends? Non-ISO stock sales? ISO stock sales? Real estate? How am I supposed to know if that is supposed to be adjusted? Isn't that why I buy TT?
My insecurity in these calculations led to my spending more money to buy the Intuit Audit Defense. TT plus audit defense is still less than hiring an accountant, but a quality program would leave me with CONFIDENCE, not QUESTIONS.
What's great about it: Rapid data entry, confidence in calculations
What's not so great: Poor or no explanations for parts of AMT queries

Met The Deadline

I have used this product for many years. I love the ease of use and the accuracy of the software. I have never used any other software product, so I can not compare it to others on the market.
What's great about it: user friendly
What's not so great: love it been using for many years and will continue

Gentlemen, I love your program and have used it for as long as I can remember. I understand that your desire is to make a greater profit but forcing us into upgraded and more expensive versions in order to use your program. You reversed yourself this year do to a major and very loud outcry from your loyal users. Please DO NOT make this mistake again. It's fine to offer an upgrade if someone desires it. But is completely wrong to force this and render your program and block IRS forms from your users. you do not own these forms.. We the taxpayers do. You only own your program. I will purchase it again next year.. hopefully this action on the part of Intuit will not be repeated. In short.. Don't kill the Golden Goose. Thank you, Steve
What's great about it: Still the best program out there in my book. Thank you for reversing your position regarding forced upgrades.
What's not so great: Had to call for support due to internal forced upgrades and even then had to override a block by jumping to forms
