Little Things

This year, 2014 tax return, I wanted to save my work and went to the save area. i overlooked the encription button and its alternate to encript.Since the T/T recommended that option I followed. To my dismay I didn't realize the need to write the code down to reach my files. The result was that I lost all of my file and had to start over. Your online help was great but I was handicapped without the comparisons of 2013 to 2014 which are very helpful. You obviosly train your telephone people vry well.

Had no problems except there is no way to know that data from a K1 for an S corporation should not be entered directly on sheet for Schedule E as you go step by step. I made the same mistake last year! And ended up with double the amount on Schedule E. Also am one of many who had to upgrade to Premier version because you changed content of Deluxe version.
What's great about it: Good flow from item to item
What's not so great: Lead me to enter data for Schedule K1 on page for Schedule E

Better Answers to errors to E-file!
on April 13, 2015

I tried repeatedly to re-e-file after fixing Fed & State Rejection message, but software wouldn't allow! Only after I happened upon the E-File Status tab did it become obvious that was were I should have been taken to so I could re-e-file as you said I could! Need better directions after errors are fixed as to where to go to re-e-file!!!!
Very frustrating to take a day to find how to re-e-file!
What's not so great: Need to direct User to E-File Status Tab after Fed & State Rejection of EIN So find were /how to re-e-file after fixed!!

Overall an excellent product. Missed some data from 1099 DIV. However did ask me to manually fill in missing data. Still wonder if it will keep track of carryover data for next year's return.
What's great about it: downloads were easy
What's not so great: missed some data from download

The process was very smooth and all scenarios were covered.
I wasn't sure during the process if some of my information from last year was actually coming through.
What's great about it: Liked the walk you through process
What's not so great: Each time I went back to the return, it wanted to start over.

Great Product - Minor Issue
on April 13, 2015

Great product for moderately complex tax returns like I have. I've used it for years and, unless you have really complex tax situations, you can file taxes without knowing a lot about the tax laws themselves. Everyone needs something like this because only tax lawyers have any chance of knowing a lot about the tax law.
One minor issue occurred in my use of the rental property area. When validating the return, the program forced me to enter inputs about vehicle use (i.e. mileage, etc.) but I never listed a vehicle, I didn't have any automobile travel expenses, and these questions weren't asked during the 'interview' process. I had to work through a series of fields entering zeros or other information that seemed un-necessary or confusing to resolve the 'validation errors' that really weren't errors at all.
What's great about it: Easy to understand and use.
What's not so great: Minor issue with Vehicle Use in Rental Property Area

2014 Taxes

I've used Turbo-tax for a few years now. Relatively easy to follow and enter data. Could be easier to research questions. The questions I end up asking don't seem to have answers. I would recommend Turbo-tax for those with complex investments. Assume it is also good for less complex filings as well.
What's great about it: Brings most info from previous years; relatively easy to use (I do the forms)
What's not so great: Can't find built-in help; some topics hard to find

1. On the state of CA tax product, I have always deducted my other state income tax I paid. It calculates the amount that can be deducted and I use it. This year when I entered the amount I'd paid, it just said "No deduction allowed". I have no idea why. As I followed the 2013 forms for a comparison, I say that it had reduced the "adjusted gross income taxable by other state" to nothing. The years before it was reduced some, but not completely. There is no explanation I could find of why it was reduced to zero. With this amount zero, then the process of calculating the other state tax credit is gone.
2. This year it did not ask me to project my income for next year (2015) in order to print forms for Estimated Tax Payments. It printed forms for the Federal by dividing my 2014 by 4 and rounding down. I did not get any Estimated Tax forms for the state of CA which is my residence.
What's great about it: User friendly dependable product; however this year it was not as easy to use.
What's not so great: No information if something is not accepted as a deduction.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
