It saves time and effort but has a small hole.

I am using my Mac for doing taxes. I used MacInTax before Intuit bought it. I have enjoyed using TurboTax for the Mac and now TurboTax on my Mac and have found technical support to be excellent once I got through to the right person. The automatic phone system does not quite understand as well as it should.
I have only a couple of concerns. One is with the filing of the NJ Tax return. The other is with entering data. For those of us who contribute to a 403-B from any other state other than NJ, it's not easy to adjust the BASIS of that 403-B. It would be nice if TurboTax was better at filing taxes than the State of NJ has been at writing the regulations and double taxing its residents. Just give me a few aspirins! Also, for those of us who have K-1's from out of NJ, TurboTax prevents us from e-filing if no NJ-K1 has been filled out. My tax professional neighbor with Lacerte, the professional Tax Preparer's program BY INTUIT, is permitted to e-File without an NJ-K1. WHY? Gotta go, I have to go to the Post Office!

What's great about it: Math and penmanship are great
What's not so great: Not too good with New Jersey

Asking for the first name at the beginning of the interview places that individuals name first on the returns. No problem with the federal, but causes problems on the state (at least for the state of Missouri). Figures ended up in the wrong column and causing some negative numbers for myself (a stay at home mom). Negative figures would surely result in red flags for possible audit. Turbo Tax, GO BACK TO THE OLD INTERVIEW.
Also, I have purchased the same program year after year, Turbo Tax Deluxe. Did the same this year and what a shock to open, begin to prepare and find out that I have to upgrade to complete taxes. Cost for me more in the end, than it would have to purchase the Turbo Tax Premier Software in the store. My opinion, the current Turbo Tax Premier is what was Turbo Tax Deluxe.
What's not so great: DO ASK FOR PREPARERS NAME AT THE BEGINNING OF INTERVIEW, CAUSES PROBLEMS WHEN YOU GET TO THE STATE RETURN

eFile Verification needs improvement

Another great product for 2014. Unfortunately, due to hacking concerns, there's more security for the eFile option. Problem is, we file married, jointly, but the verification asks for EACH or our AGI which doesn't exist separately. Therefore, we had to use the PIN verification method. Not sure if this is a TurboTax issue or Fed problem, but it needs to be addressed.
What's great about it: Excellent, Detailed, Nice and Easy
What's not so great: eFile Verification doesn't work for AGI

Worked out OK

I like Turbo Tax, however, the couple of times I couldn't get things to work it seemed to be very time consuming and frustrating.
The k-1 sale problem could be fixed by just asking the question regarding the sale reported on a 1099B.
Never had a problem with Ohio before now - am hoping it was a one time occurrence.
What's great about it: Somewhat easy to work with

Easy to file

Issues I saw with my filing:
While updating the RSU transactions, I entered wrong data once and when i updated the data i didnt see the update happening. So i had to go to the form and manually update it
I opted for AuditDefense and chose the pay through refund option since I was getting state refund. but I wasnt getting fed refund but still it was showing me that I will get fed refund. It was too confusing. I had to then purchase audit defense first then did the filing.
What's great about it: covered all the cases
What's not so great: Changes not getting updated correctly

Thanks to the many users of TurboTax that vociferously complained about some schedules being deleted from the Deluxe version and thanks to Intuit/TurboTax for actually listening to its customers and stepping up to do the right thing. I hope that the Deluxe version next year will contain everything that the Deluxe version has contained in previous years so we all don't have to go through this again. Or if you really NEED to remove some long-time features of the Deluxe version then kindly give everyone advance, well-publicized notice (like BEFORE the product is offered for sale).
What's great about it: Handled all of my tax situations
What's not so great: Almost needed to buy the next higher level of product

Turbo Tax I won't use it again

I have used Turbo Tax since atleast 1998. I will never use it again. It has messed up my returns and my son's and turned a "normal" relatively easy return into one of annoyance. It doubled deductions, messed up my union dues, didn't transfer things correctly......
Never again.

What's great about it: absolutely nothing - this program is absolutely annoying
