Another Tax Year Done with TurboTax!
on April 13, 2015

I have used TurboTax for many years and I love the program. I didn't like that Inuit decided to change which forms would be included with Deluxe. I have been buying Deluxe for as long as I have used TurboTax. I will say that they did the right thing and upgraded everyone that bought Deluxe to Premier; however, this means next year I will have to pay more to get the same forms that I used to get in Deluxe. Sigh!
What's great about it: Great program. Makes filing ease.
What's not so great: Didn't like that Inuit changed the forms included in Deluxe.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Two different lines on investment expense in Form 4952 - could not get adequate answers. Charitable contributions list is cumbersome and inadequate.
What's great about it: I don't have to figure out what forms I need.
What's not so great: Answers to questions aren't the best.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Software still works great, but the nickel and diming of all the things that you need is ridiculous. I was partially through the return when it started. Next year, after a decade of use, its time to get another software package.
What's great about it: ease of use
What's not so great: tired of getting nickel and dimed on all the options
Pros: I bought or sold investments

What a mess this year was. I have used TurboTax for many years and always been satisfied, but the greedy manner in with Intuit did things this year with the changes made to the different levels of TurboTax this will probably be my last year I use it.
What's great about it: Was able to import MOST of the information I needed from last year
What's not so great: So many problems/issues because of the changes made with the different levels

Intuit's pricing models for this year caused confusion among many people. thinking the same product we used last year would offer the same functionality this year. After a lot of pressure and negative feedback, Inuit allowed purchasers of Turbo Tax Deluxe to upgrade for free to Premier. I had to do that to file a real estate transaction using form 8949. Even then the list of codes to select from was limited to 3 in Turbo Tax whereas the IRS instructions for the form give a longer list of codes. The one I needed wasn't' available in Turbo Tax so I used a different code which I hope doesn't cause the IRS to audit me.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Incomplete codes for Form 8949
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

In the past I always used Deluxe, it handled investments income, capital gains & partnership income. This year I had to use Premier to get the same features as Deluxe had. In prior years I also had "S" corporation income as well and Deluxe handled it. Upsetting!
On foreign taxes paid, I had multiple sources and you still don't group the countries together easily. Also, when it comes to foreign tax credit, why not default to taking as a tax credit instead of a tax deduction, in almost all cases that would be the preference.
What's great about it: Familiar since I have used it for many years.
What's not so great: Had to use Premier this year unfortunately because you removed capabilities from Deluxe I used in past.

Tried another brand of software this year, not a good experience. Not worth the reduced price, bought Turbotax and completed my return quickly and easily.
What's great about it: easy to use
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
