Refunds Made Easy
on April 13, 2015

Started out w/ TurboTax Deluxe. Then when it came time for entry of my capital gains/losses from a merger of my former employer, TurboTax informed me that I needed to upgrade to the Premier edition to complete the necessary documents for the capital gains/losses needed to report for the sale of my ESPP stocks. The upgrade was smooth and I continued on with downloads and manual entry of some data w/o too much grief. On the review of my return, there were some issues but I got them worked out without too much trouble. Once this was done, the final review was completed w/o error and I proceeded to file my return electronically. Done. Now I'm just waiting on my refund. Thanks TurboTax.
What's great about it: Filling out the Capital Gains/Losses data when not able to download data from brokerage company.
What's not so great: None. Program worked w/o errors or issues. Even on a Windows XP machine.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Great experience. I am due a refund because I had to buy the Premier this year to calculate my investments, last year Deluxe had everything I needed. But Turbo tax said they would cover the difference for me. Now I just have to figure out how I get the refund. I would recommend Turbo tax to friends and family. It's my 4th year of using it and it has made things easier and given me confidence in a complicated tax world.
What's great about it: Simple to use
What's not so great: None
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good Program but could use some improvements

Turbo Tax has yet to figure out how to make it easy to file a Federal Return MFJ and then translate that into separate State Filings. I am married and my wife and I file Joint. I am in the military and my wife is not. I am a Florida resident and therefore do not file a State Return. My wife is a Virginia Resident and files a Virginia State Return. It's frustrating that Turbo Tax's only solution to this is to create two Federal Returns. A real MFJ and a "Mock" MFS to use for my wife's State return. It's just a pain to go through all the steps again. Maybe it'll be better next year.
What's great about it: Easy to use for the most part
What's not so great: MFJ Federal but not the same State Return is difficult

Minimizes the Pain of Filing Tax Returns!
on April 13, 2015

While I don't have a "complicated" return I do make a lot of charitable contributions and also have business expense deductions. By importing info from previous years return, Turbo tax takes a lot of the headache out of data entry for these contributions/expenses.
I'm confident I'm getting the max refund possible with minimal potential for being audited. You can't ask for more than that.
What's great about it: Imports all data from previous years return- great time saver for charitable contributions.
What's not so great: Didn't handle partial year state return as cleanly as I would have liked
Pros: I moved

Find a way to add scanned documents to e-file.
What's great about it: Overall Excellent Program!
What's not so great: When documents will need to be sent in addition to e-file, DON'T WAIT until the end of the process to tell me.

Good, but improve Deductions section
on April 13, 2015

Make state tax deductions & business office space deductions more apparent throughout the step-by-step process.
Also, warn users the mortgage interest deductions have been applied. When I entered the mortgage interest deductions, the amount owed shown at the top of the software window did not change. This was confusing and made me feel there was a bug in the software that failed to apply the mortgage interest deduction which is of huge importance to tax payers.
What's great about it: good step-by-step process
What's not so great: state tax, business office, & mortgage deductions too hidden
Pros: I moved
