Was easy to use

I loved the program for the most part. However, the printing options and filing options were difficult to work my way through correctly. I E-fileed only my federal return since I had a refund coming and I wanted to get that process started. I wanted to print only the Federal Return after the E-file and this was not one of the options offered to me. I assume I must go to the Print Center to do this but it is much more logical to have an option to print immediately after I e-file.
My state return could not be E-filed at this time because the estimated tax withholding form was not in final approved format at this time and so I could not print out the state return to be ready to mail in the money I owed the state until the state estimated taxes form to be paid quarterly in 2015 was in its final form. I do not know if Turbo Tax will notify me when this form becomes final or if I will need to return to Turbo Tax many times before these forms become final. This is very inconvenient for me but I see no other option at this time.
What's great about it: Easy guided steps to complete
What's not so great: Printing options were ill timed and difficult to figure out
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax is Cool
on February 6, 2015

My TurboTax experience was generally quite good. A couple of small criticisms:
A. Long-term Care Insurance premiums are deductible for my state income taxes, but they don't affect the federal return unless my total medical expenses exceed a certain percentage of my income (which it never does). I thus looked a long time for a way to enter the LTC Premiums on the STATE return, finally discovering that I should enter them on the Federal Schedule A, even though they don't affect the Federal refund.
I suggest that Turbo Tax include a brief statement on the page where the user enters Health Expenses on the Federal return indicating that such expenses should be entered there even if they won't affect the Federal tax amount, because they may affect the state tax amount.
B. I still don't know why the Deductions page includes the "other taxes" amount. This is very confusing, making the user think that he/she has entered an inappropriate deduction. If you think this sum needs to be included, at least show this amount in a way that makes it clear that the amount is not ADDED to the deducted amounts for health care, state income taxes withheld, charitable donations, etc.
Other than this, the program is very cool.
What's great about it: Clarity, efficiency, comprehensive
What's not so great: very little

It really is easy to use, but once or twice I was looking at the screen and not sure how I would pick up where I left off, but it resolved quickly. Just saying It could be even simpler than it is and it is very simple.
What's great about it: easy navigation and instruction.
What's not so great: not always clear how to get going again in a saved file.

Big Time Help
on February 6, 2015

I had a major long-term capital investment loss and Turbo Tax lead me through this complicated situation (multiple Lots) to properly insert the correct information on Forms 1099-B, 8949 and Schedule D. I didn't have to pay a tax accountant hundreds of dollars. Great software and big-time money saver.
What's great about it: I had a major investment loss. Turbo Tax took me through a complicated situation helping me file the correct forms.
What's not so great: None.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Tax Season

A gradual improvement from the days when the print version did not resemble Form 1040 at all.
What's great about it: Carryover data makes it easier and more reliable.
What's not so great: Deluxe not being able to handle Schedule D information.

Disappointed

I, like many others, was disappointed TurboTax (TT) elected to eliminate the capability to file Schedule D without having to upgrade - at additional cost - to a more expensive product and their explanation for doing so was hollow. TT is not the only tax preparation software package available so they do risk losing a significant portion of their customer base.
I file as MFJ and the federal version followed that choice. However, despite the same choice, which was indicated on the state forms, the PA state version broke down the schedule A, B and D amounts into separate Taxpayer and Spouse portions. TT got the breakdown correct for the Schedule B & D amounts but charged me, the taxpayer 100% of the Schedule A amount and then added an additional 50% of the Schedule A amount to the spouse resulting in additional taxation. I had to go in and overwrite the Schedule A for the taxpayer to reduce the amount appropriately. I was not able to change the Schedule A, B, and D to allow me to file as MFJ. Frustrating.
What's great about it: Much easier than doing taxes by hand
What's not so great: shortchanged majority of taxpayers by eliminating Schedule D.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
