2014 Tax Returns

The software was easy to follow. I liked the tutorials that were available at every step. The way the data was requested was consistent among different steps. One thing I didn't like was that I couldn't update or edit the returns one it was completed. I changed my mind and I wanted to open an IRA but I couldn't do it after the return was completed and prior to submission to IRS.
What's great about it: This is the first time I have used Turbo Tax and it was very user friendly
What's not so great: There was no option to go back to update a return once it is complete. Eg. Wanted to open an IRA but couldn't do it.

Getting there for the layperson

When using form titles, it would certainly help to show an example of what they mean. An example of this is for Qualified Tuition. In the state rundown, there is no use of "form" identification to make it easier to identify if this is qualified or not... like: use dollars in box #2 from form 1098-T for this amount.
What's great about it: Direct and to the point
What's not so great: Could explain things a bit simpler

I had to completely shut my machine down in order to go from one return to another. I am very unhappy with the software this year, because something happened during an update. After that I never was able to get anymore updates. And I was not able to e-file using Turbo Tax. I had to mail my returns.
What's great about it: I've used TBT for many years. So my data comes over from last year.
What's not so great: Problem with the software updating and being able to e-file.

Very Good, but not renewing next year

Awesome. Lots of great work went into building this product.
However, by taking out the Schedule D and other key forms and segmenting your market to force people to pay more for those forms is a fatal flaw.
If you charge more for Sch D and other finance forms next year, I'm out.

This is a great time saver. Used to do my taxes by hand, took me 4 times longer than Turbo Tax. Love it. Especially the direct download from my stock broker.

Overall Good but faulty in some areas

Overall good. Have been using it for years. But, not perfect.
This time, gave me terrible frustration when I tried to change the 'Basis Reported' box for my stock transactions. It either did not do any change at all or messed up something else. I ended up going to the Form view and change every transaction separately and slowly.
Instructions when entering Regulated Futures Contracts are almost missing. Went to web to find answers from other users.

What's great about it: Step by Step guidance is good, ability to switch to Form view is good, prompts you for a lot of incomes and deductions.
What's not so great: Made mistakes when changing 'Basis Reported' box for stock transactions.

I had a bad experience with Turbo Tax this year. I had to upgrade to Turbo Tax Premier and had numerous problems and time wasted trying to download my State form.

What's great about it: Used Turbotax over the last 10 - 12 years with no problems.
What's not so great: 2014 version is the pits. Uploads data to the point of e-filing, then goes off into a lots of advertizing. Not good!!
