Really helped with rental income

I liked the explanations when it used terms I didn't know. I also liked the running total of what was owed or to be refunded.
What's great about it: I really liked that it walked me through all possible types of income and deductions.
What's not so great: I didn't like it made you scroll to the bottom of things you had done to go to Next/Continue
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Unnecessary upsale inside this expensive product

Not all forms available:
- With the reshuffling of Intuit's pricing, this is an obvious attempt to extract more money from customers.

Constant try to up sale:
- Stop trying to sell more unattractive things inside the product.
- Remove offer to post filing status on Facebook. You are supposed to be serious business, not a cheap phone app!

Updates after filing date:
- Updates close and after to the filing date are unacceptable, and make your customers doubt your ability to manage tax preparation software.

still works great

To avoid going to a tax consultant, the program needs to provide more research.. For example, now laws, highlight area that are normally auditted, etc.
Also ranges for everything. Do not understand why this data is not a regular part of the program.
1. Federal and state averages for fields

3. Ranges for all deductions, not just the big categories.

I think I am not getting the best return, but just feel comfortable with the process.
What's great about it: format is consistent with previous years.
What's not so great: Should provide more ranges of amounts for various fields. Even broken down with : US medians, state of California median

Good But Could Be Improved

Things that could be improved:
1. Add calculator for the MAC version.
2. Entries for stock sales should be in the same order as they appear on Form 1099-B.
3. List charities in alphabetical order.
4. When cost basis has been reported to the IRS and there are no applicable adjustments, then no explanatory statement needs to be attached (or mailed), so TurboTax should not say "See attached statement" on Form 8949.
5. Investment sales should be included in the Deluxe version, as it always was in prior years.

Tax time

Turbotax does walk you through each step of preparation which is helpful for the average person. Having to upgrade my purchase for 1 deduction seems a waste. The drop boxes for questions in various sections did not provide any additional information.
What's great about it: Easy of use
What's not so great: small capital loss required purchasing upgraded version (Deluxe to Premier) other tax software did not

2014 Taxes

I was disappointed to find it was necessary to purchase the Premier version to get features which were before included in the Deluxe version.
Otherwise is very good and helpful -- but "it's deductible" is missing some key areas. For example, hearing aids, and when you go to construction it only contains things like Leggos and toys.
What's great about it: worked well
What's not so great: function removed - had to purchase the upgrade

Simple as that

This is the 3rd year I've used Turbo Tax. It goes step by step to walk you through filing your income taxes. It is super easy to understand. You just plug in your info and you're all done. Easy. I spent about 3 hours over 2 different days calculating and entering my info. Well worth it.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax makes filing taxes easy for the average person.
