The upcharges associated with higher level versions are exorbitant. In previous years, I could get by with the deluxe edition even with capital gains and rental property income. Disabling these capabilities this year is a very bad idea. I will be actively shopping for other brands next year after using your software for more than 20 years!

Pretty darn good program; no glitches

I really like the program; been using it for 20 years at least. One of the best maintained programs I've used. Biggest problem today is that the help line is much too short staffed to offer help. This is the most serious issue today.
What's great about it: Computes in real time, allows corrections, good error checking
What's not so great: Still have problems with K-1 language....part is brokers, part TTax

Complicated to Simple...
on April 11, 2015

Overall this is a good product for the non-accountant types who may have a rental investment or two. TurboTax knows how to keep things plain and simple considering the complex IRS rules and double speak that us everyday folk would have to read through if we were to do our own returns. I use to do that many years ago, fill out the forms and send them in each year. I don't know anyone who does that anymore, might be because it has become such a complicated task. I have used paid tax consultants to do my returns in the past, but I seem to do just as well with TurboTax at much less of a price. In addition, if you do your own taxes with TurboTax, you can see where most of your tax liabilities are. I highly recommend TurboTax to my friends and family. Maybe the IRS should take a lession from them.
What's great about it: Easy to go back and correct data input, use of plain English and not IRS techno speak.
What's not so great: Almost conned me into buying the Home & Business version because I had rental expenses.

Where is my car?
on April 11, 2015
Posted by: Garyspang
I used my car for business over 900 miles. Not knowing the consequences of all options, I tried some and then went back to plain mileage deduction.
During the review errors showed up and I had to clear entries on the automobile related forms even though zeroes were displayed.
A real pain to figure out. Please clean up entries that are not used in the final version,
What's great about it: Great for details
What's not so great: Changing ones mind leaves traces behind that show up as errors.

Have used turbotax for years and find it to be the easiest tax prep software to use. I always have it walk me through every option to make sure I don't miss anything. Refund up this year!
What's great about it: Nice setup with lots of help
What's not so great: Updates everytime you start it

Problem with K-1 Reporting
on April 11, 2015
Posted by: helpwithK1
When filing K-1, program does not match 1065 form. Such as, Box 13, Letter T, shows STMT and the statement is marked 13T-1 through 13T-8, with number valves for each. And Turbo Tax program is not set up this way. So there is no way to know if you are putting the correct numbers in the correct box.
What's great about it: Program is fine except for K-1 filings
What's not so great: K-1 filing

Overall a very good product
on April 11, 2015

I was very unhappy about the significant increase I had to pay this year. I have been a loyal user for many years but unfortunately, now that the product is so expensive just for one Schedule, I will be looking for a different tax preparation tool next year, even if I have to do it the old fashioned way. That's really too bad, because I have been doing taxes with TT for a long time.
What's great about it: Easy to use, thorough, good detail
What's not so great: I was forced to get the Premier version just for Sch D.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easy steps
on April 11, 2015

Turbo Tax is easy to follow step by step. Just be sure to read carefully as to not miss anything important. Just wished e-file and direct deposit options were not as costly.
What's great about it: Easy steps to follow one by one. Brings attention to important topics.
What's not so great: costly features such as e-file and direct deposit
Pros: I bought or sold investments
