Minimizes anxiety

Disappointed with this year's TurboTax edition

I have used TurboTax for almost 20 years now. I found this year's edition more difficult to use than previous editions especially with respect company owned stock transactions. This subroutine wasn't intuitive and it was only after several colleagues noticed that these transaction weren't being connected to W2 reporting that we realized that you needed to click on "details" to correct the issue. In previous years the interview for ESPP, SOP and RSUs/PUs was clearer and more intuitive. This led to about a $20k error on my return before I caught the issue. Also, I had to submit my return 2 times unsuccessfully before I realized I needed to secure a new TIN directly from the IRS website. While the core of the application seemed to work well, specific elements weren't as well done and intuitive as they have been in the past. I would award a "C" grade overall to this years programmers following several years of "A"'s. I feel that intuit has allowed themselves to lose sight of what has made them #1 in the field. While I remain a faithful customer, this years experience does give me pause and makes me want to consider my options next year for tax preparation software.
What's great about it: Ease of use and GUI interface solid for routine elements
What's not so great: stock reporting and TIN extremely challenging this year

Best to Date

We've used TurboTax for several years, while we were both still working. Since being retired and having various investments, our tax computations have been somewhat tedious. But for us, this years TurboTax Premium software has been by far the easiest tax filing we have ever experienced. Our retirement taxable income and investments have been so easy to calculate, it's amazing. Couldn't ask for a simpler tax filing program.
What's great about it: New features worked for us
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

PA State Taxes-Death of a Spouse

While customer service helped me through how to work around the issue of joint federal tax and single tax when newly widowed, I found it very tedious and had to re-enter all my federal and state tax info in a separate file in order to get it all correct. It would have been a lot easier if the PA tax program would recognize this situation and transfer the info correctly for PA taxes.
What's great about it: Got good customer service for workaround
What's not so great: The program did not handle death of a spouse correctly

Good Software

Sometimes it is a little too "idiot proof".
I would like the option for more details on some situations.
I have used TT for years, and other than them making the well documented to the Deluxe this year, which to their credit, they did rectify, I recommend it to my friends.

Easy Peasy!

For someone who is not financial savvy nor has the time, this tool is a lifesaver. As long as you have access to all of your tax documents and follow the instructions, you will be on your way to getting the refund you earned!
What's great about it: step by step process, help available, downloadable from the website
What's not so great: not being reminded of an 1099-INT that I almost forgot & did last year

Best Tax Prep Going

Great product, I couldn't do my taxes without it! Now with importing data from financial institutions it will be even easier and quicker.
What's great about it: Easy to use, thorough, gets better every year.
What's not so great: Wish netbasis was included
