SSN stolen thru TurboxTax computer system
on April 10, 2015
Posted by: HoustonAggie
from Houston, TX
I tried to file my return electronically several times on April 1 & 2, 2015. After 3rd or 4th attempt, I started searching the internet and found that I wasn't the only one to had their SSN stolen thru TTax computer systems. I called the IRS, and they confirmed that my SSN had been used by someone on March 5, 2015 to file a return in my name and SSN. I am now going thru heck trying to contact govt agencies, credit bureaus, Social Security Administrations, banks, investment houses, local police, etc to make them aware and notifiy me of any further use of my SSN without confirming it is me thru security questions. I will never file a tax return electonically thru TTax. Intuit should have notified all registered TTax software owners...old and new....immediately after the discovery of the stolen SSNs. Intuit/TurboTax: Accept responsiblity for your failure and support your customers in this matter.
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: SSN was stolen thru TurboTax computer system
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Not sure if I'm going to use Turbo next year

Turbo Tax is great unless you have a problem like trying to remove a 1099-R that didn't belong in your return.
The screen urges you to submit a question but then shows you questions that others have asked that might relate to your Q. It then shows you part of the answer, but you cannot access the full answer.
Loggin into TT simply takes you to a site where you can choose from the TT menu of products, which is available WITHOUT logging in- no apparent benefit to taking the time to log in!
Online- Chat: clicking on the online chat image didn't open up any type of session- the site leads you to think it is soooo easy to reach a TT expert- not true at all.
The site isn't that user friendly if you have a problem.
What's great about it: the entry format was easy to use
What's not so great: logging in didn't add value. couldn't initiate online chat session for help.

Overall a good tax software

Date of acquisition is not the same as date of service. Depreciation of real property is incorrected placed under Income.
Date of acquisition field not required for all covered/uncovered items.
What's great about it: Covers all major items
What's not so great: A bit convoluted to find certain items.

Imports not working well
on April 10, 2015

I am not sure whether it is the Turbotax software or the brokerage company but import of Ameritrade data needed extensive review.
What's great about it: Software easy to use
What's not so great: Import of Investment info was incomplete
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good complete tax form preparation

I have used TurboTax for many years however as the cost goes up I will be looking at other programs. I really think that rental property should move to the small business version or become the premier version and investments should move to the Deluxe version with a resulting lower cost.
I also think the cost of state e-filing cost is really to much. I always print the state forms and mail them for less than $2 including postage.
What's great about it: in depth questions if needed
What's not so great: Don't need the rental property stuff, cost of state e-file
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Deductions and Credits Entry is Frustrating
on April 10, 2015
Posted by: PQMark
When I'm entering information in the "Deductions and Credits" section it is very frustrating to keep track of what I've already done. For example, I scroll down to the "Cars and Other Things You Own" section and I update "Car Registration Fees". When I'm done entering those fees the "Deductions and Credits" form takes me back to the top rather than leaving me at the "Cars and Other Things You Own" section. So in my simple case I have to repeatedly scroll down from the top of the "Deductions and Credits" section at least 7 times to enter all my data.
What's great about it: Easy to capture entries - see what you did last year
What's not so great: every time you enter data in a section main forms jumps to top
Pros: I bought or sold investments

GF Review 2015

After finishing a section, it takes you back to top of section summary and not down to (and perferably in to ) the next section. Wastes a lot of time.. .plus caused me to miss a section initially.
What's great about it: Simple
What's not so great: After finishing a section, it doesn't return to next section.. you have to keep scrolling down and figure out

This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: I felt that most circumstances were covered.
What's not so great: Some things required more research outside TurboTax to understand. The catastrophic health care answer was incorrect.
