VERY GOOD, As Usual

I've used Turgo Tax for many years. The only time I didn't was when I knew the situation was far too complex for this system.
What's great about it: Easy to use and complete
What's not so great: Cost $$$

A few issues

On our Invoice it says TURBOTAX ADVANTAGE TY2014 DELUXE.
We found that we had to upgrade to Premier (for FREE) for our stock reporting but the program stated if you have Advantage it isn't available for update. I had to call helpline because the program told me I wasn't eligible with Advantage but I purchase Deluxe. Your staff finally got it straightened out but my problem is that in all the years I have purchased your Deluxe program I have NEVER had a problem entering my stock info until this year. Why the change and will you continue to offer FREE upgrade to your loyal customers in the future???

TurboTax takes a lot of the pain out of tax filing

I think that this is the 4th year in a row that I've used TurboTax -- overall I'm quite happy. TurboTax helped me navigate through a number of tax situations this year including renewable energy tax credit, energy efficiency credit, and the usual standard deductions. For a few more difficult questions, I had to do some research online. For instance, for the foreign assets reporting requirement (FACTA and Form 8938), the penalties for failing to report are very high, so I wanted to make sure it was true that I didn't have to file this form. It turned out I do not have since I hold my foreign stocks in a U.S. brokerage account, but it wasn't immediately clear. It would be helpful if TurboTax asked the simple questions on where your foreign stocks were held or gave definitive guidance on this in the help.
What's great about it: great interview questions that help guide through the process
What's not so great: a few of the interview questions were hard to answer
Pros: I had a baby, I bought or sold investments

Fed good, PA state not

I agreed to pay the added fee to e-file my PA state form, so I paid for it, then find that it can't be filed due to some forms that needed to be attached. I didn't need the forms, but was unable to rid the screen of the requirement.
What's great about it: Easy format for information input
What's not so great: No flexibility in correcting errors on state input information. Billed me for state efiling before being sent

I finally can file it!!!

I could not file a return if I did not have the information that was available from the previous years and Quicken and entered for me.
As the program gets more complicated, the harder it is to use.
If i did not know that I could use the Sales Tax instead of the Income tax, I would have missed the opportunity. I had to search for the place in which to insert the information.
For non-cash donations, could not use both ways of listing a donation - thus it looks like two donations made the same day.
Was a victim of identity-theft last year & again this year - had to send the return to Austin, Texas.

It's so easy

The only work in tax prep is keeping records and gathering the info to enter, and you do that no matter who completes your return. Why pay more?
What's great about it: The imported personal info and the investment info makes it easy
What's not so great: The cost of state e-file is too high.
