Complication made simple

Tax made easier

Overall a great program that makes completing your own personal or business tax easy.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax will either walk you through the complicated sections or you can choose to work on your own
What's not so great: The section on 1st time home buyer keeps poping up (25 times) and then you have to go through the questions to close it
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Always Owe but feel better with TT

Couldn't do this without TT. I hate tax time as much as about anything, like getting a tooth drilled. TT is the good Novocaine that makes the pain feel better. Like the running balance at the top of screen too.
What's great about it: Nice interface
What's not so great: Issues with paying electronically

We need an easy way to print individual pages. Printers stop, run out of ink, etc.
Would like NOT to reprint the Fed return with my state return. Yes, the state requires the Fed return be attached but I don't need an extra copy...more printing, more ink, more paper, with an electronic return. It clogs up my file drawer.
Need better clarity on IRA accounts regarding pre-tax, post-tax amounts contributed. This is important to save us taxes.

What's not so great: Did not like to have to return TurboTax Deluxe and buy an upgrade because you pulled features from the 2014 package.

I am retired and about 59% of my income is reported on 1099-R forms. I receive monthly payments and to my knowledge they are qualified plans, although I will confess that I do not know the difference and when I have called the places that issue my checks they do not know the answer either. If you say it is a qualified plan and your receive monthly payments Turbo Tax wants that to be a RMD, which I do not believe it is. It is a bit confusing.
What's great about it: It is thorough and they gaurantee the accuracy of the calculations.
What's not so great: I do not always understand what they are asking for and trying to determine that can be time consuming and frustrating.

Making Corrections

When you find that you have made a mistake and included an item that you should not have or included it in more than one place, it is difficult to correct it. I had to go in and find the form that had been generated from the entry and then delete the form.
It would have been much easier to just changed an incorrect answer to a question and have turbo tax make the necessary corrections.
I do this once a year and am therefore not intimately familiar with everything like a tax professional would be. It took me a while to figure out how to correct my mistake which just added to my frustration at tax time.
