It would be nice if interest and dividends from New York Life insurance accounts could also be downloaded electronically.
I seem to recall earlier versions of TurboTax popping up a window where an error in the return could be corrected. The descriptions of a couple of minor errors were confusing and it took some hunting to find out where the error was located.
What's great about it: Electronic downloading of some financial data
What's not so great: Confusing instructions when errors found and identified in return

Gouging of Delux Customers

Switching forms previous in the Deluxe version to the Premium version forces Deluxe users to pay a much high price for the functionality they need. As a long, long time user of TurboTax and before that Swift Tax, I am very disappointed and will switch to another software for my 2015 taxes and beyond.
What's great about it: One year complementary upgarde to Premium. Compatibility with H&R Block software.
What's not so great: In future years, Delux customers will have to pay for premium because of switching of forms from Delux to Premium.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I am not a financial type of person at all. The fact that I am able to do my own taxes with the investments and deductions is a miracle!
What's great about it: Easy to use, thorough
What's not so great: Takes a little bit of effort to look through the menu items

A multi-month marathon!

As a multi-year user of TurboTax I had no problems with the standard income, deductions, and Capital Gains portions of the return. But this year I had an excess 401(K) contribution to reports. Finding out how to do this was a really troubling experience. Even the "tax consultant" answering the question on what to do advocated a path that did not make sense in context of the guidance from the IRS website. Fortunately some user provided a reasonable solution that worked in TurboTax and conformed to IRS guidance/requirements. My conclusion is that the Tax guidance offered by TurboTax is marginal (to be generous). If you are not in the standard flow of the tool, you are on your own.
What's great about it: Standard stuff worked well
What's not so great: Finding answers to exceptions was a real bear
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I have used Turbo Tax each year for at least the last 5 years. I found the 2014 version more difficult to use than prior years. Prior years walked me through my filing which includes quarterly estimated tax payments. I particularly found it hard to find where to enter quarterly estimated tax payments for both federal and state taxes. I did not realize that estimated state payments should be entered during the federal return. By the time I realized this, I was already into my state return and the program indicated that I owed state taxes. When I went back and added the information, the program was confused and, despite indicating that I was due a refund, wouldn't let me complete the return. I did finally determine how to correct the problem, but it was somewhat frustrating.
Other than that, the program worked and my return has been filed on both the federal and state levels.
What's great about it: Does all necessary calculations for you
What's not so great: Not easy to correct mistakes

I love TurboTax. I've been using TT for years now and have never had a problem. I'm not exactly investment savvy but with Premier I can always figure out what numbers go in the blanks, since their questions and explanations are plain English and direct. Nicely done TurboTax, and I think you get better each year. I would highly recommend.
What's great about it: Fast, easy & understandable
Pros: I bought or sold investments
