Don't invest your money in this machine.

This machine is a pain in the rear if you want to embroider with it. Takes forever to figure out how to move around the screen and then it is not easy to figure out. Instructions are not clear. Machine jams all the time in the middle of a design. Bobbin case has worn out and it has not been used that much. This is not worth the money, wish I would have put my money towards an upgraded heavy duty machine.

Don't waste your time, money or energy on this machine. What a disappointment . f I had to do it over, I would never purchase this Singer 400. I have followed instructions numerous times , watched videos and it jammed so many times while I was embroidering many projects and ruined the material.. One person teaching instructions said this machine was having the same problems as mine. I thought he was being harsh but she was right. You cannot change the bobbin if it runs out while you are embroidering, and changing parts and needles is ridiculous. Also when it does work the stitches are not even. when I upgraded my PC it was difficult to program the cd's. I called Singer and they wanted to charge me money for a new cd to program the machine. I finally got it to be compatibility and program my machine after hours speaking with the IT dept. at Singer. I am happy for the people that purchased the machine and like it...but I feel for the price I could have purchased a much better machine.

Need better instruction for the editing and software instructions included are very poor. I was so upset that it took me six months after I first tried it to try again and it took six month of working with it to finally get comfortable with it.

One Of The Best Machines I Have Ever Purchased

I have tried several embroidery machines, and have never been 100% satisfied until I purchased my Futura. This machine is easy to operate, and does a fabulous job with the stitching. I love making my ITH dolls with it, I can set the machine to sew the intricate details of their faces as I cook up dinner, clean the house, or even mow the lawn. This machine sews like a dream, and has never created any issues with bunched up stitches, broken threads or any other issue that was not due to "operator error". I've used mine for several years now, and do not forsee needing to purchase another replacement machine anytime in the future, the machine is AMAZING!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this machine through a Swip/Swap ad. I was in the middle of an embroidery project, and my machine (Brother SE425) decided to start malfunctioning. I started looking for something that I could get at a reasonable price to at least help me complete my project, and I saw the ad. Pros- I LOVE the large capability. The 425 only allowed for 4x4, so being able to do larger designs is heavenly. Also, I can repeat the design, and get 4 done at one time rather than only 1 before I have to change out the fabric. I appreciate that I can work on another design while the machine is sewing and it doesn't mess it up. Love the fact that I can control the speed of the sewing, so if it is in a difficult area, I can slow it down. I also like the 'back up' button - if I don't like the way a design sewed out, I can 'back up' and it will resew those stitches. Neutrals - For some, the fact that you have to use a computer as a screen is a nuisance, but it doesn't bother me. Cons- I really don't have many. The one thing that I would change about this machine is that it doesn't cut the thread when it completes a design/color, and there isn't a button to have it do it. Probably the only thing on the Brother SE425 that I prefer over this one. S/N - one reviewer stated that you cannot change the bobbin in the middle of a pattern. I was able to do it with no problem. The machine stops, giving a "thread broken" message. I took out the bobbin, threaded it, and put it back in the machine. I *do* recommend using the 'back up' button for a few stitched, just to reinforce where the bobbin ran out.

I have been using my Futura 400xl for about 3 years. I have a sewing and embroidery business. This machine has all the functions that I need. I love that I can design on my laptop and transfer it over to be stitched out. I have tons of embroidery files and can pull them up in a matter of seconds, even ones that I've saved from a previous job. Changes are made in a blink for new job and off it goes to the machine to be stitched. You can definitely change the bobbin in the middle of a design. Heck, I've even had to stop and wind a few bobbins in the middle of a design. I don't understand why that was even stated in another review. I've even stopped a design in the middle of stitching, to put another hoop in of a rush job, then put the 1st hoop back in, resend to be stitched and fast forward to the exact location to pick back up stitching. It's so easy to use. If you have computer skills, you can do tons with the designs on this machine. If you find it hard to hoop and get design placement, you can fast forward your needle through the stitches to make sure you have the perfect placement. Changing the needle is tight, but I use a pair if hemostats and it's a breeze. I'm not sure why folks complained. This machine is great! I highly recommend. :)

I received mine as a Christmas gift. Talk about a dream machine! The software takes a little bit to learn and the add-on software is a bit overpriced. Otherwise I'd have given it 5 stars.
