Needs better software

The Canon MF8050cn is an admirable machine and the price is right. Print quality is very good. However, paper handling needs improvement as you must control the printer from the printer itself rather than the computer interface. Also, it only shos status of the toners as good or not...it doesn't give an idea of how fast you are using your toners separate color cartridges. A software rewrite should improve just about all aspects of the printer's shortcomings.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, Small Footprint, High Quality Output, fast print speed
Cons: Difficult to use, needs better paper handling and software
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

COPY & PRINTS CLEAR & CRISP

I HAVE OWNED THIS PRINTER FOR 3 YEARS. I PURCHASED ALL THE LARGE TONER CARTRIGES AT THAT TIME & HAVE JUST INSTALLED THE BLACK & ONE OF THE COLORS FROM THE SMALL ONE THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT. IT IS VERY GOOD ON TONER. IT IS SLOW BUT THE QUALITY OF THE PRINT IS EXCELLENT. COLOR PICTURES COME OUT NOT TRUE TO COLOR. THEY COME OUT MORE YELLOW. WHEN YOU TRY TO CHANGE THE % OF EACH COLOR ON THE TONER PRINTING= IT DOES NOT CHANGE THE PICTURE AT ALL. I ONLY USED IT FOR PRINTING & COPYING SO DON'T KNOW ABOUT FAXING. I CAN''T SEE THAT WOULD BE ANY EASIER THAT THE PRINTING WHICH IS REALLY SLOW!
Pros: reliable, durable, High Quality Output
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Difficult Setup
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent scanner/color laser printer for a home n

I have used this device for more than 2 years, and have been well served by the dependable and high-quality performance it delivers consistently. Since my job requires me to travel internationally for prolonged periods, I wanted a simple, high-quality device for my wife to use during my absence. We have previous experience with Canon home laser products, and were well satisfied. This machine has not failed to deliver up to and exceeding our expectations. I strongly advise buying a full set of factory-original toner cartridges when you buy the printer, and keeping a spare on hands at all times. The lifr is excellent, but not many retail outlets will carry the replacements when you need them. THis will prevent any delays on critical output jobs.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, easy to use

Overall good printer

Just got this printer yesterday. Set up was very easy. Had it up and running within an hour.
Pros: Excellent print quality. Networking is great too--you can wirelessly scan a document to pdf to your computer.
Cons: Printing is slow--much slower than a normal laser printer. Toner saver--it has the option, but when enabled, you can barely read the page; black text comes out as light grey. There is an option to reduce toner density, but I did not notice any difference. Envelope handling- had trouble printing return address envelopes- the printer made the margins way too wide, causing the return address to be almost in the middle of the envelope.
Pros: Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed

The printer is very good with one exception. With other versions of canon printesr you get software to set paper type. With this printer you must go to the printer, set the paper tpye and qaulity you want then print and then go back and reset the default you normally use. I found this a pain. When they have the ability to do the direct from the driver soft ware wht not use it. Returned.
Pros: Easy Setup, High Quality Output, fast print speed
Cons: Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Another Quality Canon Product

My new Canon Color imageCLASS® MF8050Cn arrived this week and set-up was fast and easy. The starter guide got me up and running in no time. The unit was packaged very well and is a sturdy, quality product. Printing is sharp and clear - colors are good. Fax is efficient and easy to configure. Scanner and copier both work to expectations. Software was easy to install. A few notes: the machine is rather heavy...and it does not come with a LAN or USB cable. Printing is a little slower with this machine, but the quality print makes it worthwhile. I am very happy with my purchase.
Pros: Easy Setup, durable, Small Footprint, High Quality Output, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed

ALRIGHT FOR THE PRICE

PRINTER WORKS GOOD FOR THE PRICE. I ABSOLUTELY HATE HOW THIS PRINTER FORCES YOU TO REPLACE THE TONER BEFORE IT IS EMPTY. I HARDLY EVER USE THE COLOR AND IT MAKES ME REPLACE THE COLOR ALMOST AS MUCH AS THE BLACK TONER. EVEN THE BLACK IS PRINTING FINE WHEN IT MAKES YOU REPLACE IT. YOU CAN PROLONG IT BY TAKING THE TONER OUT AND PUTTING IT BACK IN FOR EVERY PAGE YOU WANT TO PRINT, BUT WHO WANTS TO DO THAT! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS PRINTER TO BREAK, SO I CAN STOP BUYING CANON TONER!
Pros: prints faxes copies
Cons: Slow Print Speed, makes you replace toner before empty
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Too Expensive & Slower Than Grandma

I should have just stuck with Brother printers. I swear I grew two years older waiting for the first page to print. This is one expensive turtle.
