Great range, except for one tiny issue...

I've only had the range a week, so I'll give my preliminary review now and come back after several months for one more in depth. I've baked something every day and have been impressed with the finished results. A tray of cookies was evenly browned; cinnamon rolls rose evenly; chicken and vegetables roasted beautifully. The burners on the stovetop come on quickly, no standing there listening to the clicking sound waiting for the gas to ignite. If you look at the top of the range, the right front burner is an extra large one, with a Power Boil setting. The burner is a little too large for my smallest omelet pan, but a pot of pasta cooked in no time.
The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of an issue which is not mentioned in the stove specs, or in most reviews unless you specifically search for it. Because the elecrical components for the controls are at the front of the range, above the oven, there is a fan in there that helps keep them cool. It kicks in when it reaches temp, then turns off about 10 minutes or so after you're done baking. That's a great idea. However, it is VERY LOUD. It's not too bad when you're standing in front of the stove, but the fan hardware itself is located at the back of the range. My range is up against my dining room wall, and you can hear the hum and feel the vibrations against the wall. I'm very good at tuning out noises, so I can easily get used to it. But if your kitchen or home is laid out where somebody will always be behind where the range is located (for example, you slide it into an island with seating behind it), it will get annoying very fast. I debated whether or not to exchange this for a free standing range, but I really wanted a slide in and can live with it. I had planned on putting up wainscoting in the dining room, but if I do, I will probably take down the drywall first and add insulation to protect from the noise. This is not just a problem with GE, it is with all slide-in ranges for all manufacturers, as they all have the nifty buttons and flashy lights at the front. Not just gas, but electric ovens too. Freestanding ones generally don't have this problem, as the controls are already at the back of the range.
So when you are considering your new range purchase, please keep in mind the sound issue, and where the new range is going to go in your home.

had to have door replaced, hard to keep clean

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The stanless panel on the door came loose. The whole door had to be replaced. I dont know if its this stove or just stainless. Its VERY difficult to keep clean. The burner stainless area under the grates leaves wipe marks. The knobs and front also hard very difficult to keep nice looking.

The product is beautiful ; the fan is too loud

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My new slide in range looks beautiful in the kitchen, but I am very distressed by the steady loud buzz of the fan which hums until the oven is turned off for about 15 minutes. I find I have to put music on to distract from the fan sounds.

Excellent Gas Range - Difficult to Keep Clean
on March 22, 2013

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an excellent gas range except for two points, 1) when you cook on the range, the top and the front control panel ends up greasy and/or soiled, and 2) the top and control panel are difficult to clean. The grills on the top of the stove come in two large pieces. They are heavy and make cleaning the top of the range more difficult. The large grills are difficult to handle to clean. It would be better if there were four smaller grills, one over each burner. Other than these issues, the features and cooking of this range are excellent. If we had known about the difficulty in keeping the range looking nice after every cooking session, we would have looked for a different range.

Great Unit
on April 25, 2013

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Only thing I have to caution a buyer on these units is be aware of the counter top depth because the stove sits over the front lip or edge of the counter top it may not slide completely back to the wall, leaving a noticeable space between back splash and back of stove. My fix was easy, with a call to my counter top people, they made me a filler piece from the same material of the counter top to fill the void. Would have been better if I planned for that when I ordered the counter tops, but fixing a old house up yourself is always full of surprises.

Oven ignitor not working
on September 12, 2013
Posted by: Turley
Have had this range for 2 years. It's already had a thermal safety switch replaced and the oven fan is loud and now the oven ignitor is not working. There are two ignitors, one for the oven and one for the broiler so you can swap them out while you wait for the replacement and keep using the oven. Bought two replacements because if one went out, the other is sure to follow. Was able to diagnose and buy the part using online resources and it's a fairly easy repair but just another disappointment in an otherwise beautiful package

Great Stove

Though I have had this stove for only a few weeks I love cooking on it. I have read other reviews about the fan noise when the oven is in use. I have not found the sound to be loud or annoying. I also like the design of this stove.
