All that it claims to be

I just got back from a long weekend in Yosemite National Park with my Canon Powershot D10, and it's all that it's cracked up to be. I've had this camera for almost two years now, and it does exactly what I want. It is a little large, not quite comfortably fitting into a pants pocket, but I'll deal with the inconvenience.
I travel extensively, and I don't baby my gear. If it can't handle my lifestyle, I don't want it. Among other things, I'm a long distance backpacker and a scuba diver. I go to cold, dusty, rough, remote places, as well as the standard spin around town. I need a versatile, high-performing camera to fill in the gaps where my SLR is too bulky, too heavy or too fragile to go. I've taken the D10 diving (down to 12 meters, oops) and gotten amazing pictures that were the envy of my peers (even compared to someone shooting with a G12 in an underwater housing!). I've been dunked in a stream overflowing with snow melt, and the camera hasn't missed a beat. I throw it in my backpack for three days in the backcountry, and it takes amazing pictures.
The startup time is negligible and the features are all familiar from my Canon SLR. I shoot on program mode, and modifications and settings are quick and easy. It's not as customizable as I'd like (can't manually set exposure time or aperture). I'd love to be able to attach a remote to it for some time-lapse or super-long exposures. The zoom range isn't too impressive, although it does have digital zoom (I usually ignore this feature, since I think quality dwindles). Battery life does leave something to be desired, especially in the areas that I take it. I need to get a second battery. I'd love it if this camera could charge off USB. All that being said, I've taken some truly amazing professional-quality pictures in places that don't welcome professional-quality gear. I love my Powershot D10 and don't go anywhere without it.
Pros: rugged, waterproof, quick startup time, customizable settings, high quality pictures, excellent qualitiy underwater scene setting
Cons: Short battery life, limited zoom

Great Camera

This camera takes amazing pictures. I have used it several times kayaking in the bay and have had amazing pictures no matter what the conditions.
The optional accessory kit is way overpriced for what you get. Which is too bad because the carrying case included in the kit would be nice to have.

I bought the D10 in Jan. and have tested it on every scn. setting except fireworks . and it works fine although it is a bit to slow in kids and pets but i don't feel it was built for action shots . the colors are good and sharp. the only thing i wish it came with was a float attachment for the water . a key chain float works just fine though. and maybe a lanyard that was long enough to go around your neck with two attachment clips on it . I am around water a lot and have wet three other cameras all died. this one is great when u get wet .

floods 1 month after warranty
on July 11, 2010

My canon d10 has flooded with a decent amount of water only 1 year and 1 month after warranty. It could have been the kids who were taking pictures with it, but i very much doubt it since we were having problems with it a few weeks prior. I noticed a couple weeks ago that the pictures were becoming kind of hazy, but i dismissed it as me photographing in very humid conditions, then yesterday less than 30 seconds after i gave it to one of the kids she said it wasnt working, and indeed the buttons were not functioning correctly, and I had been using it for about 10 minutes prior, so my blames lies on canon. Nothing irks me more than when a product goes bad right after the warranty expires.
also bear in mind that this was one of canons first d10's off the line so it may just be new product growing pains, which is the main reason i am considering buying another.
Image quality was great when not high contrast situations.
This camera took a real beating from us too. Ocean and Beaches of Mexico, dust fields and flood plains of North Texas, Freezing rain, sleet, and snow of Akita Japan, Thunderstorms and Hail of Texas, and swimming pools.
I doubt this might have anything to do with it, but may be a decent theory considering how many flights it has been on, maybe the airpressure in the camera pushing out during flight may have damaged it.
you cant put a submarine in space you know.
Pros: took a beating from us, great image quality with enough light
Cons: flooded a month aft wrnty xpire, image qlty poor in multiple light situations

The Best Camera ever!!!

I have had 5 different cameras over the last three years and I have to say hands down this one is just perfect. I have two kids and three dogs. We are always at the pool, beach, park, camping, four wheeling, etc... this camera is one that you don't have to worry about. I have dropped this several times and got it fully immersed in water still works like a it was brand new!!! The pictures it takes are amazing. You don't have to take a class to run it very easy to use. Tons of great features and I love the zoom.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Shooting Modes mimic 35mm
on March 11, 2011

The PowerShot D-10 truly lives up to the hype of being an "adventure" camera. My husband and I travel all over the world to snorkel, bicycle and hike. I prefer not to carry my digital 35mm while engaging in these activities for obvious reasons, so the D-10 is perfect.
Having over 40 years experience with 35mm cameras, I think the various shooting modes of the D-10 mimic a 35mm and are easily accessed with excellent results; particularly the "sunset" and "indoor" modes.
I purchased the D-10 just one month ago while snorkeling in Maui and found that for underwater shots, the maximum range is 6-8 ft from subject in order to "filter" the blue from the shot. That being said, I was very satisfied with the photos I had taken within that range.
I highly recommend the D-10.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: lcd screen easily scratched.

I got this camera from my kids for my birthday. It's great around the water, able to use it tubing, snorkling, and take super pictures. I really love the UW color correction setting, no post editing required.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
