This camera is almost perfect

I purchased my DC10 about two years ago for a trip to Australia. I wanted a camera that I could use when snorkeling and something that could withstand sand and moisture. I did a lot of research before selecting the D10, and as a long-time Canon PowerShot user, it wasn't a hard decision to make. The bottom line is that I was not disappointed. This camera takes incredibly detailed photographs under almost any conditions and it also does an outstanding job capturing the correct colors both in and out of the water. I also love that I can take it outdoors and not have to worry about sand or dirt in the mechanism of the camera because it is totally sealed - it can be rinsed off like your electric toothbrush. The only major issues I have with this camera are its size, and the lack of HD video - I would use it a lot more if it were smaller. The lens also has some barrel distortion at the edges and I find myself sometimes wishing for a more powerful zoom, but the photos that this camera takes are so detailed that the images can be enlarged significantly without losing image resolution. My one warning is that despite its looks, this camera is not a toy and is not a good camera for kids. The battery/memory card door must be carefully inspected and sealed every time it is closed, and the latch must click into place for the seal to be effective. I loaned the camera to a friend who was going to Hawaii and his kids destroyed it in an hour. I have had zero problems in two years of sporadic, but very intensive use. If you want an affordable and compact underwater camera for snorkeling, this is it. If you will be using this as an outdoor camera I would also highly recommend the accessory pack - a bit pricey, but it includes a very useful variety of straps and a nice neoprene soft case as well as some cool replacement covers if you don't like the blue color. Buy it!

Cons: Heavy/Bulky, no hd video support, no built in lens cover

Error messages

I was so very excited about this camera when I received it. We took it on our vacation to Mexico to photograph all the underwater wild life etc. However some of the footage we took got erased . we thought this was due to us not being fameliar. But now that I think back this may not have been the case. I have had the camera less than a year, yet I am getting all kinds of error messages when I turn the camera on. I have only used this camera on this one trip, and may be one more time.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Complicated controls/menu, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Most durable camera

Well I bought this camera in Camp Striker, Iraq from a PX there. It lasted the whole deployment with me. A little over two weeks ago I brought it with me to the All Star race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and I put it somewhere outside when I got back and forgot about it. Yesterday I was messing outside and I happened to run into it. It was covered in dirt and mud when I found it. It's been storming a lot the past couple weeks also. I pushed the on button after I had cleaned it off and it just started right up like a charm. That's the kind of camera I've been looking for.

Wished it hadn't failed

I love this camera. Took it to Hawaii and when first used it was awesome. It took great late night pictures and the special effects are great. Wanted the underwater part to work and it did but 2nd time in the water it filled up with water. It's dead. I double checked the battery and side covers it was dry inside but it looked like the water came in under the viewing area on the back of the camera. Had to buy another camera to finish out our vacation. (I got another Canon the PowerShot SD 1300. It's small but it got us our vacation photos. Even though it's not able to be taken in water.) With that said the D-10 its still an awesome camera. Had I known that it would leak so quickly I would have gotten a field jack for it before putting it in the water. But I wanted to trust it so I did and that was a mistake. Wished I still had it working because the pictures were wonderful that we were able to take so lesson learned. I do plan on replacing it with another D-10 but the new one wont be going in the water without a protective water field jack casing.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, durable, easy to use
Cons: be aware this camera can leak and get water inside, can ruin a vacation photo shoot bring a back up

Wonderful camera

I've had this camera since October 2009 and I am very pleased. I am satisified with the quaility of the photos and the durability of the camera.
I recently went to a waterpark with this camera and dropped it on the ground, Not only did it fall, but it bounced a few times. I knew it was over for this camera but to my surprise, not a scratch and it came on instantly.
The only con about this camera is that it is bulky. I only use it when I know I am going to be around or in water. For everyday use, I have a canon 1400
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: bulky

Love this camera!

My old camera was really losing its touch. I wanted something affordable, yet durable. I wanted a camera that I could use while snorkeling. This is it! The point and shoot feature makes it easy for anybody to use. The colors are really great. I love this camera. I'm so glad I bought it. It also takes great pics in low light situations.

I've had this cameras since its release its an excellent camera. Cons Its a bit bulky and has an odd feel in the hand which i can live with if the design is what makes it so durable and allows for its 30ft water capability. Not happy that it doesn't take HD video which is becoming a standard on many point and shoots in its class. The low light performance without flash is gritty but that's the nature of a point and shoot, to many expect SLR quality in a small package.
Reading the reviews the few who had leaks seem to be in the in the minority. Make sure the hatches are closed all the way! They can appear to be closed but they may not be latched properly.
Been to the beach, wading, kayak, water park, skiing, it goes everywhere if i could post a picture you'd wonder what i put it through. Since its been in salt water some oxidation on the corner clip is evident.
I will buy another but i expect to see an upgraded version with HD video and overall spec improvement by the time this one fails. Maybe a bit more pocket friendly.
