Rugged "Boat Camera"
on July 28, 2010

I have owned my D-10 for about 6 months; the camera was bought for use outdoors on my boat while fishing. It has performed flawlessly so far. After reading several reviews on the D-10 I am convinced that it IS NOT WATERPROOF; however I can attest to it being VERY WATER RESISTANT.
I have had it out on several offshore fishing trips here in south Florida and it has worked great as a “boat camera”. It has been dropped, shaken and rattled around in the glove compartment of my boat. It is scratched up and looks worn but still works great.
I have not submerged the camera more than 18” or so underwater; however I have done so many times while taking shots of fish being landed next to the boat and it has not leaked or become waterlogged yet.
The camera looks to be built to handle rugged conditions and so far for me has lived up to the claims made by Cannon regarding performance and its ability to handle harsh conditions.
I do not treat the camera with “kid gloves”, it has been covered in fish slime time and time again, rinsed off and continues to work just fine.
If you are considering purchasing the D-10 I would recommend the following:
Do not dive with it… or submerge it for prolonged periods of time at depths any deeper than two feet.
If possible, frequently wash it off with fresh water throughout the day while using it in salt water.
NEVER open up the camera unless it has been dried completely first.
I did not buy the camera with the intention do dive with it, as stated, I purchased it as a “boat camera”, if you are looking for the same, the D-10 should be considered.
Pros: takes very sharp pictures., very easy to use., very water resistant.
Cons: may not be waterproof.

Camera takes a lot of abuse!
on March 14, 2011

So I bought this camera when I decided that I would like something in the interm before I got a new dive camera. However this little camera is not only preforming amazingly but takes a lot of abuse from me. I use it for everything shallow diving, snorkeling, reefing, days at the beach, fireworks, travel and much much more. It holds up well and a battery charge will normally last about two hours with constant use or for the whole day with intermitent use. I wold recomend that if your a shutter bug like my self that you get some spare batteries. I have 4 batteries and while I travel commonly use them all, not in one day though. I find this camera a joy to use and it is so easy to learn the controls. Plus I never have to worry about it getting wet on rainy days or having a ruined shot because ther is a setting for every situation. Enjoy this little guy fits right in my purse or dive gear pocket!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Im not a pro-photographer by any definition, but i love to take pics everywhere i go. However, i used to miss out on many opportunities due to the lack of features of previous cameras. This camera is Great, it takes pics under water (with sound), great colors, awesome features and great price. I have taken this camera to the beach, rivers, lakes, snow-boarding etc... no problems at all!! Everyone that sees me with it, want to buy it. I only wish it was a bit slimmer. either way, i love this cam!
Pros: price, underwater with audio, great quality, good battery life
Cons: a bit bulky

Awesome Camera!

I absolutely love this camera. I bought it over the summer because my old camera died. I bought it mostly because my friends all have pools and I thought it would be fun to have pictures from goofing around in the pools. The pictures came out amazing and really clear underwater. The pictures come out really awesome when the camera isn't underwater. My only complaint is that sometimes the shutter is a bit slow, but besides that its amazing! Would recommend this to anyone.
Also has really awesome features that allow you to do some sweet things while taking pictures [:
Pros: awesome battery life, good underwater pictures, good normal pictures, easy to use, awesome features
Cons: sometimes the shutter is a bit long

A suitable camera for wet conditions

I've owned the D10 for about two months and have substituted it for my N5 for shallow water and rain/wet condition work in the field. The controls on the camera are confusingly labeled when compared to most cameras, but the functions are admirable. As a seasoned pro (over 35+ years experience) the D10 makes for a light, somewhat easy to use camera in adverse conditions.
I bought it specifically for a kayak trip down the Napali coast of Kaui. It actually performed better than expected, albeit the shutter lag...fix your software Canon!!!!. Add a flotation device to the camera prior to using this in the surf or underwater or suffer potential loss; and Do, repeat, Do read the instructions prior to first use. From all the reviews and failures, I suspect that the cameras adversely affected were inadequately closed. After downloading my 8 gb sd card (why not a cf card???) I was surprised by the quality and focus of the underwater shots. The locations for the handstrap allow you to adjust for swimming and a decent underwater grip. I am going to add some silicon to the body after warranty to provide a better holding surface. Controls can be a little tough to work underwater, so make sure you memorize them. A nice surprise was the battery life in standby mode. The lense and screen shed water nicely for 1/2 frame shots. Surprise yourself & test in a pool first.
Pros: quite decent for the price, good focus following underwater
Cons: controls need refinement, requires careful prep before use

LCD failed during my vacation

I bought the camera in Oct 2009, test it in the pool a couple of times and during a vacation trip in Costa Rica last week, it failed (and I was not even under water), the display got blank, the camera takes pictures but I cannot see the controls or the photos in the display... it has been very disappointing...

I am. over all. very pleased with the D10.
My purchase was based on both practical experience, knowing what I needed and wanted, and budgetary issues.
The D10's size and shape are very important. It is easier to use underwater than thinner and smaller cameras. Not that the D10 is large, I can put it in my shirt pocket. Placement of Control buttons etc. and the 30' depth rating, also play a role in this scenario.
Still photos are sharp and crisp. Videos are also good, but lose quality quickly as you zoom in on your subject. This is the only reason I did not give the D10 a 100% excellent rating.
I needed an inexpensive Underwater Camera that would give me still photos and video clips. The D10 fits my needs to a T.
Easy to use, easy to carry, easy on the pocket,
Pros: price, size & shape, 30' depth rating, ease of use
Cons: video quality poor when zoomed in

We purchased this camera in May 2009, and wow we 100% satisfied. We use it outside at baseball games, soccer games, it has been to the beach and in the water (pool and ocean) more times than I can count. We use it outside snowboarding and sledding. 100% water proof, really tough camera. Has some great features, shoots good video too.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
