Great camera, until water gets inside.

This is probably my favorite camera out of all of the canon products I've had, due to the fact that you can wash it clean after a day outdoors.
The photo quality is great, but there seems to be a significant amount of lag after each photo taken.
I bought this camera primarily for use underwater. Within a year, water has gotten through the lens and has rendered the camera useless. I've tried letting the camera dry out on its own but the water seems to be stuck inside. It's as if the water temperature was so low that condensation built up inside the housing.
For its current price, I would consider buying a replacement if the durability could be improved. It's as if I bought a disposable waterproof camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I must tell you I am more impressed with Cannon than I am with the camera and here is why.
I purchased this camera a couple of weeks prior to a trip to Jamaica. The camera functioned perfectly for our needs throughout the course of our trip, but on our 3rd day we went snorkeling, and I was excited to take this camera with me. I can assure you I double checked all the "covers" were closed (at the battery enclosure), but when we jumped in to the semi-rough seas for our snorkeling, I noticed the cover was open, and the camera completely saturated with sea water. We washed it out, dried it out, recharged the battery, etc. etc. did everything we could and it would not work. I was devistated as I just purchased this camera. We took a chance and sent it to Cannon for repair (knowing that it would be easy for a company to say it was operator error, or that we had not filled out the warranty card yet, I was expecting the worst). To my surprise, Cannon immediately responded. No charge, complete replacement. I was absolutely shocked at the fact there was no resistance. I typically feel like I have to "gripe" at companies for issues such as these, and quite honestly I felt this was a lost cause at the start. Instead, I have been nothing but impressed at the highest level of the customer service we recieved, no questions asked.
Now, for the camera - it is awesome. It does all we asked and more. I have been very happy, and I would strongly reccomend that if this is not the camera for you (should be - it's versatile and fun), I would stick with the Cannon brand out of principle.
Good luck!

I'll Keep it short and sweet,
If your someone like me that hates to mess around with all the functions to get the perfect shot then this is your camera,.
Don't get me wrong, you can also mess with all that stuff too, but you don't have to.
My wife and i like it easy and that it is, the best camera i have ever owned.

My old camera was really losing its touch. I wanted something affordable, yet durable. I wanted a camera that I could use while snorkeling. This is it! The point and shoot feature makes it easy for anybody to use. The colors are really great. I love this camera. I'm so glad I bought it. It also takes great pics in low light situations.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

OK - If you ever need to be out in the elements or have a need for underwater shooting, this little camera does the trick. It is not pro quality, but the 12Mpix sensor does a great job in most situations... The controls are a bit cumbersome to use like many of the point and shoots, but for the price you'll be very impressed!! So, if you don't want to carry around your underwater housings for the SLR or you just have to catch that shot in the heavy rain, this is for you... Highly recommend!

D10 Review

After some web research for a digital underwater camera, I decided a diver camera was too expensive and checked to see if Canon had an underwater product. I researched the D10 and decided to purchase one for a recent Carribbean snorkeling trip. This camera is excellent. It takes outstanding underwater pics, is easy to use, and is reasonably priced. In showing my pics to other snorkelers I bet I sold it 10 people with just the picture quality. Maybe Canon will hire me as an agent :-). This is an excellent product and I am very happy with the purchase.

Best Vacation Camera

I purchased this model for my trip to Maldives, and this camera complimented our fantastic trip. During the trip, we did not worry about water, humidity, sand at at all. It is very handy for water sports, and it produce nice pictures during day time, some of them even comparable to those taken by DSLR. The camera provides different modes for different occasions, and I found the beach mode quite satisfactory. It does not fit indoor or night scene, but that is common for compact digital cameras. I would say it is a little too big to fit into pocket, however, it still is the perfect vacation camera I have ever used.
Pros: waterproof, nice picture quality, easy to handle buttons
Cons: cannot fit into pocket, quite slow

Would be great if it worked
on July 21, 2010

On our first snorkel trips last year with this camera it produced great pictures. Its got a nice feel in the hand and seems robust.
On the second trip this year, to the Red Sea, we were really excited to get some good images. And then the display failed just minutes after getting in the water(snorkelling on the surface - well within the limits). By pressing all the combinations of buttons - the screen came back and then failed again. Seems like an intermittent fault, not water leakage.
The problem is compounded by the fact that there is no way to adjust the camera if the screen is not working, impossible to figure out how to do a reset, even if this might help. The shutter button worked and took pictures that I was able to view by putting the card in another camera. But you can't see what you are taking pictures of if the screen is dead.
This is a problem that I have seen mentioned on several posts for the D10 and there appears to be no solution. So beware there are reliability problems with this camera.
Cons: not reliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
