Great Performance
on November 10, 2009

After dropping my old digital in the water, I read the reviews and bought this camera. Most of my digital work is with a Nikon SLR, so I was greatly surprised that this camera could keep up in picture quality.
It is bulky...not for the pocket. But it floats!! And the
picture quality and features are comparable to the SLR.
I'm very impressed. The battery sits in the camera waiting
to be used for several weeks at a time. I LOVE this camera.

Underwater/Overwater All Great !

This camera is simply awesome. It takes great underwater pics. Just choose the underwater mode and get yourself the legendary point and shoot Canon quality shots. Both in and out of the water this camera is the bomb ! The best part I think the super bright LCD. You can see what on earth you're trying to shoot. Many of these so called underwater cameras can't do that so what's the point if you can't see what you're shooting. At 12.1 Megapixels you have lots of room to do your cropping using your favorite editing program. The videos shoot in 640 X 480 format which is plenty big enough. The quality of the videos is excellent for a point and shoot. The video mode is Quicktime compatible so you can just stick your SD card into your computer and copy all your files onto your hard drive and play the videos and pics immediately. This camera has all the bells and whistles you could hope for. It has many, many scene modes and also a Programming mode. You can force the flash for those sunset shots where you want the faces to be lit with the sunset in the background. You put it into Macro mode for those super close up shots. You can shoot in Auto mode for the no brainer shots. The absolute best part is that this camera won't leak. Had numerous friends kill their Sanyo VP series underwater cameras and they all leaked. This Canon not only doesn't leak it goes down to 33 feet under. A lot more than any average snorkler or swimmer will go. So it handles being pounded by waves easily. The only thing I don't care for is the weird shape. The battery lasts seemingly forever. You can shoot lots and lots of videos and pics. This camera was made for all day at the beach. Get one, have fun shooting where you could only dream of shooting. Oh and don't forget that this camera works no matter rain or shine. So no putting this camera under your shirt if it starts to rain. Just keep on shooting. Oh did I mention it's also shockproof? What more could you need. Take it snow skiing too !
Pros: instant on !
Cons: shape is kinda weird.

Doing a lot of fishing this summer. Picked up camera in west glacier MT because i didn't want to damage sony dslr. Have faith in camera shop (have bought accesories there before very knowledgeable staff) and relied on their judgement as to the quality of the camera. Have been absolutely impressed with it in every way. Still figuring out the various features, but was able to take it out of the box and take good pictures. I'm hard on electronics in general but this thing is still going and it doesn't get babied. good all around piece of equipment. iwould recommend it to anyone who spends time fishing or hunting.
Pros: very fast startup no waiting, double tough
Cons: sometimes hard to navigate through all features

Good for outdoor dirty work

I don't scuba. I use this as a job camera. It works great in the rain and cold and I don't worry as much about gumming it up with dirty fingers since it is all sealed. Shock resistance is a great feature, I usually ruin cameras by dropping them. Images are excellent, even close up. The zoom is only 3x, but with 12 mp I can always crop and still get a nice image. Canon should market this camera as a job camera, not just a vacation camera.
Pros: shock resistant, great for dirty conditions, rain proof
Cons: won't fit in my pocket

Close to perfect!

This is an amazing camera! Not only are the underwater shots amazing (as verified by some friends who are ultra-snobby about underwater picture quality), but every other picture I've taken- from landscapes to macros of really small orchids-- have been the best of any camera I've ever had (and I have some cameras much "fancier" than this one!)
For the product developers-- for the next version, make the "quick option button" (picture of a little printer) have more options-- I really wish I could switch from single shots to the multiple shot option on the fly, rather than having to go into the menu.
Pros: amazing macros!, great underwater pictures, camera adjusts itself to any condition, ability to switch where strap attaches

LCD failed after 30 days
on August 13, 2009

I bought this camera for a trip to Australia (from California) during which I was hiking, river rafting, snorkeling and sea kayaking. The PowerShot D10 looked to be the perfect fit for the trip. I tested the camera for 3 weeks prior to going and was satisfied with the overall quality and durability, although would have preferred more zoom and external controls.
The D10 worked well hiking and rafting but the LCD went blank after the first snorkel (5days into the trip) and, although I could hear the lense focusing and the powerlight worked, I had no idea what the settings were and the camera was useless. I by no means exceeded the specs for use and do not believe that I mistreated the camera in any way.
Back home I looked at the underwater photos and was amazed at the clarity and fabulous color (using the underwater setting) of the few pictures I was able to take.
I'm very disappointed in the durability of this camera, (the only sour note of the trip) however someone else on the trip had the same model and it functioned perfectly under exactly the same conditions. So, I guess based on this experience, you have a 50% chance of this camera working for longer than 30 days under the conditions for which it was designed.
I've returned the camera under warranty and will review the service when it's returned.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent Camera around water

Camera takes excellent pictures and is great around water, I bought this camera for use on a Colorado River trip and it worked out great, some little problems with keeping water off the lens but was able to keep it dry with a soft lens cloth.
Pictures are excellent.
Works great around the pool with kids.
Easy to use and light to carry.
Pros: quality of pictures
Cons: needs a lens cover
