10,500 shots

After 10,500 shots I am ready to say the D10 works :). River trips, snorkeling, backpacks, camping, hikes, it did it all with no failure to fire. Nice colors, decent resolution. It outlasted three other small cameras. For GPS I just noted coordinates from a separate unit and added geotags later if needed. Some cameras won't work at low temps or even below room temperature but this one goes skiing and gets up early on hunting trips. I stepped on several other cameras and broke the lens covers, some fell off dashes, some dropped on pavement, but so what with the D10. Best is that it still has no dust in the lens where others have flare and spots from debris collected quickly. Nice not to fumble with lens caps in a hurry. I clean it with a shirt tail and no scratches or fingerprints that stay for long.
Pros: fast cleaning

pros and cons

solid construction, good canon image quality, good quality in low light, easy to use menu system, performs as expected.
as a rugged "outdoor" type camera, mine is getting exposed to water, dust, dirt, etc. why there isn't a lens cap or covering for this type of camera simply baffles me. Now, I'm left hoping and praying that every type I wipe off the lens I don't end up scratching it. If there was a way to keep dust off the lens in the first place, I would rate this higher.
Also, its way bigger than any competing products. Why can't they make a waterproof ELPH-sized camera?
Pros: solid construction, image quality
Cons: no lens cap/covering, big and "bulbous"

First time in the water the housing flooded ruining not only my camera but my trip. No camera unless I wanted to buy a new one. Lost a whole experience of underwater fotos while swimming with manatees. I am sorely disappointed in this Cannon product.

canon's 1st disappointment- unable to function

I have bought this camera 2x and my cousin owned one. The first time I used it once in Bahamas and it kept telling me to load battery pack when I fully charged the batteries. It kept turning off during the day after my first day underwater.
The 2nd camera was used in cabo and it was fine. My cousin's LCD stopped working after using it in hawaii for 1 day underwater.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Flimsy Construction, doesn't last long

Error messages

I was so very excited about this camera when I received it. We took it on our vacation to Mexico to photograph all the underwater wild life etc. However some of the footage we took got erased . we thought this was due to us not being fameliar. But now that I think back this may not have been the case. I have had the camera less than a year, yet I am getting all kinds of error messages when I turn the camera on. I have only used this camera on this one trip, and may be one more time.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Complicated controls/menu, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

lens restart?????
on December 27, 2010

I bought this camera because of the features. It functioned ok when i went to the beach a few months back. Now, I get blurry pictures and the body has a very ugly melt down near the backscreen. I hate it that it keeps on showing this ugly line, Lens Error, restart camera. It's crazy. I restart constantly. To fix the error, I need to shake my camera so the lens would fix itself. Not too intelligent
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Heavy/Bulky, lens issues

Great pictures, but defective
on June 20, 2010

I have owned this camera for nearly a year. I bought it solely for wet applications (snorkeling, white water rafting, pools, ocean, etc), since I have a Canon 40D and another Power Shot. The camera takes great pictures, when it works. My first outing in Mexico, it worked flawlessly. The last two times I have used it, it quit working about ten shots in. It just would not power on, despite the battery having a full charge. Several days later, on the same battery with no additional charge, it would power on again. Possibly just a defect with this particular unit, but it is disturbing.
When it will take pictures, the quality is very good. The features of the camera are also very good. The menus are not quite as intuitive as on the regular powershot I own, but not bad given the vast array of options.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
