Great camera, until water gets inside.

This is probably my favorite camera out of all of the canon products I've had, due to the fact that you can wash it clean after a day outdoors.
The photo quality is great, but there seems to be a significant amount of lag after each photo taken.
I bought this camera primarily for use underwater. Within a year, water has gotten through the lens and has rendered the camera useless. I've tried letting the camera dry out on its own but the water seems to be stuck inside. It's as if the water temperature was so low that condensation built up inside the housing.
For its current price, I would consider buying a replacement if the durability could be improved. It's as if I bought a disposable waterproof camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Family Trip Must Have!!!

I purchased the D10 to use on our family trip to Florida and it performed exactly as advertised...perfectly. The underwater pictures were even more clear than I thought they would be. The camera was easy to use and the battery lasted the entire day. The only thing I would change would be to recess the viewing screen slightly as it is flush right now, and when it was moved on the pool deck it left permanent scratches on the screen. This is a great product that i would recommend to anyone wanting to take pictures around water.

First time in the water the housing flooded ruining not only my camera but my trip. No camera unless I wanted to buy a new one. Lost a whole experience of underwater fotos while swimming with manatees. I am sorely disappointed in this Cannon product.

Good camera

I bought this camer primaraly for useing in and near the water. So far it has held up well considering the amount of use and abuse. I am a swift water rescue tech and needed something to help document rescues as well as training. We are always in and out of the water and so far this has been very handy. The buttons are large enough to use wearing gloves. The camera is a little bit hard to hold on to this way but I haven't dropped it yet. I would recomend it to any one looking for something to use around the water.
Pros: great pictures

Great adventure camera

This camera is amazing. Considering what it can do and the alternatives, it is nonsense to complain about its price (look at the price of another camera and the additional cost of a water proof case) or the bulkiness (again, look at how much bigger the additional water proof cases are)
While kayaking, I can pull out the camera, turn it on and take great pictures in just a few seconds. In time for great wild animal and adventure shots. My bulky cased SLR could never make those pics. I now take this camera along on hikes and camping trips; smaller and lighter than my SLR, great macros, wonderful landscapes and I never worry about it getting wet, dirty, dusty, dropping it. It's incredibly solid.

The carema can take nice pictures. But it's too bulky to carry it everywhere. It cannot fit into your pocket.
Pros: good picture quality
Cons: too bulky

Nice photos, but big lag underwater

We bought this camera for a trip to Panama and Costa Rica. Besides snorkeling, we wanted a camera that would be safe in a rainstorm.
This camera is capable of really nice photos, both in water and on land. On the other hand, it was quite frustrating under water to watch a fish turn its back on the camera during the time between pushing the shutter button and the actual shot. There's only so long you can hold your breath waiting for the moment to repeat. Maybe I'm spoiled by my Canon 40D, but the lag seemed excessive.
We also didn't like the slippery body shape. You feel that the camera would be easy to drop, and sometimes we ended up wrapping our hands around it and leaving fingerprints on the lens cover.
Pros: 10 meter depth rating, great photos under good conditions, much easier to use than a housing
Cons: shutter lag, slippery shape, alternate straps only offered in an expensive set

Can save great memories!

After reading many of the review, I have some thoughts on things. As for odd size or too big....I got this camera mostly for its underwater use. I would think using a slim, little camera would be harder to orchestrate underwater. I would hold it firmly in my hand and do great aiming with one hand. It was a wavy day, so the water was not perfectly clear, but with using the Picasa editing program and using Picasa's I FEEL LUCKY editing button...the pics "blew" up with great vivid colors! It brought into view stuff I did not see!
As for quality of pics..I am a Canon SLR user. The D10 does not give that quality. But for moments when I want to take pics and the event does not qualify or is not safe to carry my larger/more expensive camera...the D10 is great for that.
Much better for outdoor use, than indoor. But that is what we have editing programs for!
But I would surely follow the soaking instructions after underwater use. After swimming in the ocean, we soaked it for the instructed 3 hrs and we had brown stuff still floating out. But the camera is still working great!
