Good u/w camera

The camera is as good as any normal point-n-shoot you will find. Nice picture quality and colors. I could probably write much about the good things of this camera, but most of that has already been said. However a few things I have noticed that may help you decide are as follows;
First, it is not as big as I thought it would be. Some of the reviews made it sound like it was as large as my DSLR. It's not. If that is a concern, take a look at one yourself. I find it a very good size for me.
I do think it could have been designed a little better. Seems every time I set it down, it ends up laying on the back display. I haven't scratched it yet, but it seems very exposed. Maybe if Canon included a cheap case, I would have felt better.
I also wish canon had just put a couple of metal loops on the corners to attach a strap, instead of the custom connector. Seems to limit my options for no reason.
As it does not float, why not include a floating strap? I ended up putting a keychain float I use on my boat on the strap so I don't watch it sink to the bottom.
The only problem I have had with the camera on picture quality is the AWB on indoor shoots. It seems to bounce back and forth between a few options, and is not always right. Outdoors, no problem.
Nothing I have said should be taken as I think I made the wrong choice. Great camera, and would buy again!
Pros: good size, good pictures, good features
Cons: strap connector, expensive batteries

Endured a yacht race across the Pacific!

As a offshore yacht racer, I eagerly awaited the release of the Canon D10. We used the camera (exclusively) on our recent race across the Pacific from Los Angeles to Honolulu. The camera was used by everyone onboard and typically stayed above deck the entire trip (in the rain, heat, cold, etc.). The image quality and video of the camera has allowed us to create a professional video of the race to share with our friends and family. The size, quality, and price-point for the camera greatly exceeded our expectations!
Pros: size and duribility, image and video quality, smart "pre-sets", battery life, carrying case
Cons: may be a little pricey $$

Underwater/Overwater All Great !

This camera is simply awesome. It takes great underwater pics. Just choose the underwater mode and get yourself the legendary point and shoot Canon quality shots. Both in and out of the water this camera is the bomb ! The best part I think the super bright LCD. You can see what on earth you're trying to shoot. Many of these so called underwater cameras can't do that so what's the point if you can't see what you're shooting. At 12.1 Megapixels you have lots of room to do your cropping using your favorite editing program. The videos shoot in 640 X 480 format which is plenty big enough. The quality of the videos is excellent for a point and shoot. The video mode is Quicktime compatible so you can just stick your SD card into your computer and copy all your files onto your hard drive and play the videos and pics immediately. This camera has all the bells and whistles you could hope for. It has many, many scene modes and also a Programming mode. You can force the flash for those sunset shots where you want the faces to be lit with the sunset in the background. You put it into Macro mode for those super close up shots. You can shoot in Auto mode for the no brainer shots. The absolute best part is that this camera won't leak. Had numerous friends kill their Sanyo VP series underwater cameras and they all leaked. This Canon not only doesn't leak it goes down to 33 feet under. A lot more than any average snorkler or swimmer will go. So it handles being pounded by waves easily. The only thing I don't care for is the weird shape. The battery lasts seemingly forever. You can shoot lots and lots of videos and pics. This camera was made for all day at the beach. Get one, have fun shooting where you could only dream of shooting. Oh and don't forget that this camera works no matter rain or shine. So no putting this camera under your shirt if it starts to rain. Just keep on shooting. Oh did I mention it's also shockproof? What more could you need. Take it snow skiing too !
Pros: instant on !
Cons: shape is kinda weird.

Used around the world

I have owned mine for about 4 months now. The first day I wanted to try everything out, so I could take it back the next day if it failed. I droped it about 5-6 times, froze it, and soked it in the sink for 2 hours, it pasted all my "Feild test" Then I took it diving in the barrier reaf with me. I also live in the deasert. It hasn't failed yet. Takes well above average pics. The battery last all day. The only things I can say bad is that it is big & odd to hold and the screen needs to be recessed a little to prevent scraching. I guess some comprimises have to be made. All in all I like it, and am ordering all the goodies to go with it. If I get 2 years out of it before it breaks I would buy another one.
Pros: durabalty
Cons: size

D10 survived Colorado River rafting trip
on July 30, 2009

When we decided to take a seven day trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, we wanted a waterproof camera to take pictures and videos as we ran the rapids. In addition to water, the river can become quite muddy/sandy due to summer storm runoff from side canyons.
The D10 performed wery well and the pictures are quite impressive and clear.Since there in no electricity on the river trip and the D10 cannot be recharged using a photovoltaic charger, we purchased two additional batteries, which turned out to be a wise investment as each battery lasted a just a little more than two days on the river. (this of course would not be a problem back in civilization)
It was easy to switch back a forth from still shots to video. I also set the programable third top button to toggle the screen off and on to conserve battery life.
The strap can be moved to any conrner of the camera whiich proved useful since it could be strapped to the left hand, leaving the right hand free to shoot without the strap getting in the way.
Pros: ease of use, rugged feel, repositionable strap
Cons: battery life and non rechargable using solar

I only use Canon Cameras because of it great color pictures and easy viewing of Videos. But for and Uknown Reason on this new model Canon change the Video Format to MOV wich is a CONS because you will need to intsall Quciktime in order to view the videos and no longer be able to see Pictures and Videos using Very Simple Windows Picture Preview

LCD failed after 30 days
on August 13, 2009

I bought this camera for a trip to Australia (from California) during which I was hiking, river rafting, snorkeling and sea kayaking. The PowerShot D10 looked to be the perfect fit for the trip. I tested the camera for 3 weeks prior to going and was satisfied with the overall quality and durability, although would have preferred more zoom and external controls.
The D10 worked well hiking and rafting but the LCD went blank after the first snorkel (5days into the trip) and, although I could hear the lense focusing and the powerlight worked, I had no idea what the settings were and the camera was useless. I by no means exceeded the specs for use and do not believe that I mistreated the camera in any way.
Back home I looked at the underwater photos and was amazed at the clarity and fabulous color (using the underwater setting) of the few pictures I was able to take.
I'm very disappointed in the durability of this camera, (the only sour note of the trip) however someone else on the trip had the same model and it functioned perfectly under exactly the same conditions. So, I guess based on this experience, you have a 50% chance of this camera working for longer than 30 days under the conditions for which it was designed.
I've returned the camera under warranty and will review the service when it's returned.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
