Easy Swap Out of Older Model GE
on May 25, 2015

I installed this unit about a week ago, replacing a similar, 15 year old GE that had a burned out lower element, and 'possibly' fritzed control board due to the high heat utilized in the 'Self-Cleaning' feature. The new model has both, Self-Cleaning and Steam-Cleaning, the later using a much lower, component friendly, heat cycle to dislodge the spatter of baked goods from the interior walls and pan.
Overall first impressions: Easy installation, user friendly control panel, two bright interior lights, isolated lower element for easy cleanup and quiet fan.
While researching for a replacement unit, I had stumbled upon an 'installer's' remark, admonishing against even using the 'Self-Cleaning' cycle, because the high heat generated, over 1000 degrees, during the several hour cleaning process, will, over time, wreck havoc upon the logic board, and fail.
Here's looking to decades of happy baking.
I would recommend this to a friend!

One thing to know.

The oven works well and as expected. The one thing that we wish we would have known: It needs to be "primed". It would have been helpful if this was in the instructions. Our first meal was ruined because of strong fumes. After much internet research, apparently this is normal upon initial use. The fumes are very strong and you will want run it at high heat to break it in - and open windows!

I like my new oven but it takes some getting used to. Cooks alot faster than my old oven. Takes too long to pre-heat.

i can't believe our energy efficiency stance
on December 13, 2014

i just bought this oven, along with a new advantium microwave, and new refrigerator, all GE. When I began using this oven, whether in traditional mode or convection mode, I couldn't believe how much heat it vents to my kitchen. It literally blows hot air the entire time while cooking, and then after it finishes cooking and I pull the food out of the oven, it continues to blow hot air out while the oven is cooking down. I can already see that I will not be able to use my oven during the summer months, as I like in Louisiana, and it is very warm here. My 30 yr old oven that this replaced did not blow nearly this much hot air. This is NOT just a GE problem, this is a wall oven design problem across the industry. While these ovens might meet energy star requiremnets, it is a farce, because if you look at the impact on the entire building envelop, you are heating up air and exhausting it to the living space, where, depending on the climate, this heat must be removed by the residential AC system. Very, VERY energy inefficient considering the building envelop. Why can't these wall oven designers provide a way to capture the vent and exhaust it out of the home during the summer when not desirable, and use it as supplemental heat in the cold months when desirable. You could even tie it in to the AC thermostat with a vent damper valve. Now that is a truly useful engineering solution.
So CAVEAT EMPTOR.... if you live in a climate zone with a long cooling period, you may want to consider a different approach to cooking.

ok, fan blows a lot

I dont know what to expect other than how it compared to our 1985 GE exposed, coil heat oven. Install was smooth but the opening for the box mount /wall cut out is VERY specific! Seems to take longer to preheat, about 15-17 min from room temp to 425. Fan blows out bottom at a low but noticeable volume the entire cycle and over an hour though cool down. Kitchen is definitely heated more than our old style oven. (this is on standard bake, convection is similar) Pizza, brownies, banana bread, fish and casseroles have all come out looking good and cooked even. Not convinced the long term durability of 30+ years will be there with all the computer controls and touch pad but that seems how everything is going. Time will tell....
