Complete Disaster

We bought this washer in 2011, to replace another Duet that was also only a few years old. Here we are, four years later, and we are experiencing a total breakdown - the seal leaks water out of the front; the drum is loose; and the bearings are shot. All need to be replaced. We have been extremely diligent about cleaning the machine and leaving the doors open to air it out as we were instructed by the manufacturer. It's not enough. We battle mold and stinky funk. We also have learned that front loaders should only use 1-2 TABLESPOONS of HE detergent so as not to gum up the seal and bearings. We know that these are common issues related to front loaders, but our problem with this washer extends beyond that to the company itself.We first contacted Whirlpool in late March 2015 about the breakdown less than four years after its purchase. We were highly encouraged to purchase the Repair Plus One plan for $380ish, which would cover parts, labor, and another year of warranty. Better than purchasing a new washer, right? Wrong. Total disaster. Our first Whirlpool-connected technician arrived two weeks later to diagnose the problem, and parts were ordered a week after that. FOUR+ WEEKS later, he returned on May 12 with only one of the three parts and stated he could not repair the machine without all the parts. Whirlpool would not let us out of the contract with this technician to reschedule with someone more competent after weeks of phone calls to them. Finally, on May 15, Whirlpool sent us an email saying the washer was too expensive to repair and they would either 1) send us a new washer in 3-4 WEEKS, or 2) cut us a check to use on our own. Needless to say, we took the money and ran to purchase a completely different brand. NEVER AGAIN will we buy a Whirlpool product.The reason for the two stars is that, yes, when it's working the washer is great. Just give it about four years and see what happens. Good luck everyone!

Love This Washer From Day One

I bought my first Duet back inearly 2000. I loved it from day one. When hurricane sandy took my washer :( I needed to replace it and there was no shopping around I knew I wanted another Duet. I love this washing machine. It is so easy to use.The clothes come out feeling so clean and with hardly any wrinkles. There are so many setting options. When it spins the clothes its like a rocket forceful but smooth. I highly recommend this washer for anyonelooking for a dependable machine with ease of use and cleans the clothes like no other washer I have ever had. If sandy did not take mine in the flood I would still have it, 10 years old and it was running like it did when I first bought it.

Duet Washer and Dryer

This purchase was included in a new house I purchased. The unit works fine and does a good job of cleaning. I previously owned a LG product and although the LG was a more solid unit the cleaning ability seems comparable. We will see how the Duet performs over time.

The only issue I have with the washer is keeping it balanced

I love my washer/dryer set - however, I find myself in constant battle trying to keep the washer balanced on a tile floor.The washer (with additional base) sits on my tile floor and when it tries to spin at high velocity (like it is designed to do) it becomes extremely unbalanced - either adding cycle time while it tries to reposition the load or it will spin unbalanced and "walk" upto a foot.We have had the company that sold & installed the washer come out and try to re-balance it (didn't help) and we have also tried to turn the spin velocity down to medium & it still didn't help.
