Great speaker monsters!

Finally I can hear natural sounds, and like real music instruments playing in front of me! Many bestbuy reviews kindly recommended to use dedicated amp. But for me, I am just using pioneer vsx-1131 and bi-amp front speakers without plan to upgrade receiver. Still I can hear rich sound... just a hint for those who don't want to spend more.

Great but power hungry speakers

I've now had them for about 11 months, I’ve tried running these with only a Marantz SR-6013 (110 wpc with two ch. driven). It was sounding better than I thought it would but I wasn’t impressed with the bass. I now power it with a Crown Xli-2500 @500 watts per channel and they shine!
I have read all sorts of comment about these speakers. Some people are saying you only need an AVR but honestly you are not getting the most of it without a dedicated amplifier and you are also putting your system at risk (you could damage the speakers if you push the volume too much).
If you only want to use your AVR get the RTI A7 instead (I also own a pair and they sound good).
Note that you can get them on sale for much cheaper than the regular price and don’t really need a subwoofer when you power them properly.
These also look good with or without the grill (depending on your preference) and are quite massive.
In terms of sound, clarity is better than I was expecting for the price and the bass is quite impressive.
My recommendation would be to go in store to give them a listen if you have the chance, each brand had it’s own sound profile and at this point your personal preferences will or should dictate which brand to go with.

So these speakers cant actually handle 500 watts nor can they handle 300 . They mave a max rms at 200 watts. Says on a pamphlet in the boxes when you unpackage them .says : warnning! This speaker polk audio rtia9 cannot handle more than 200 watts/ch. If you put any more power into them then 200wayts. Your warranty is void! Period ! Weve had alot of ppl over powering these and voiding thier warranty.
So @ bestbuy! These arent 500 watters. Thier 200 watters! .
Also i have about a 15 or 20 year old sony reciever. And i bet its like 150 watts / ch easily. Also it weighs about 40 lbs. But i cant turn these dpeakers up past 2 out of 10 on the volume knob. The highs cannot handle it. The highs are very crisp and clean though but im also hearing horrible background sounds from any recordings i hear and although i can hear sounds i normaly cant hear with other speakers. These sounds are horrible awefull noize. Not sount ir even intended to be there. The bass when turned up to two is not even there at all. The bass is very low end and very fatiguing within 2 songs i cant stand it. My budy said these speakers are actually junk. Thats why they fatigue your ears dude. So im really really not that impressed. I would hold out and buy high end klipsches with dual 8 inchs medium end speakers at the same price on sale. Cause these speakers are garbage. And ill be returning them lol. Not even worth keeping at all. And im a single person that CAN hear above 20k hz and even 40k hz. But these speakers arent balanced in any way. Thier not at all optimized. I would never reconend these speakers in a million years. 200$ /pair pioneers would destroy these. Period!. When these speakers 1st came out they only cost a meare 199$ cad for a pair. And to this day probally 10 years later they still perform like 10$ speakers a pair. Theres just too much cabinet. What a wadye that is 85 lbs ea? And cant even handle 100 watts! Junk!

Flagship need big power?

I own many polk speakers in the past so i knew what to expect,
was just nervous because i recently sold my 2 emotiva power amps
and only running a Yamaha Rxa2080 at this time.. Actually those speakers are pretty efficient i was pretty surprised on how well the yamaha power them alone!!
since i got 2 Svs subs i dont need to set the A9 to full range and i got to tell you it sound amazing! I can get away without adding and external amp very easy, if you want them full range that another story those speakers can take it!

Great Speaker with the Right Amplifier

Significantly more "life" in these speakers compared to the RTi A7's I replaced. Note these things are HUGE and need a lot of raw power to drive. Make sure you have the space for all of this, and get a dedicated amplifier for it to pair with your A/V receiver. I went with a Marantz SR6014 and an MM7025. Beautiful powerful sound, especially at reference level.

Very large, okay sounding requires big power

Big (LARGE)
height and depth
Heavy
front grill push in clips vs magnets
bi wire 4 channels x 150w should be done for better sound
I did try 2 channel x 150w highs not as clear
I found highs under powered
when bi wired tweeters came more noticeable.
worth buying if there is a big discount, but powering these is where the cost comes. Recommend separates. Look for something else other wise.

Great sound from big speakers

Very big and beautiful speaker, I chose the cherry finish, plugged them into a marantz SR-8500, in stereo mode, 160 watts per channel, sounded great but followed some reviewers advice and bought a crown xli1500 at 335 watts per channel, coupled to a pair of dayton audio 10 inches 100W self powerd sub., wow what a difference it makes, the sound coming out of these speakers is amazin, clear and excellent, they shine at concert like levels, no distortion, again you need big power for those speakers to come alive, auditioned some martin logan and monitor audio speakers at twice the price before buying them on special, Glad I choose the polk audio RTIA9, Vivaldi, Jimmy Smith, Supertramp and Lee Ritenour never sounded so good before, if you decide on buying these get yourself a high power amp + subwoofer and you'll be in business. They're also great for home theater too.

In my opinion absolutely yes.Already having an 8 speaker Polk surround system with older 300w rt10 up front lacking the extra base and midrange speaker of the A9 plus 200w.I was looking for a speaker for good old 2 channel stereo listening and these 500w A9,s more than do the job.So as I sit back and enjoy my 70,s rock collection Thank you Best Buy and Thanks Polk..,
