bought boat in 2016, so far three of speaker grills broke, since then all six have been replaced, but two of them do not work, trying to get those replaced. i was told by shop that it is a flaw. newer ones seem to have a better grill, time will tell, hopefully they willl replace the two new ones that are not producing any sound. its been frustrating, and not a cheap boat.

Definitely a big step up

Excellent sound quality. Significantly better than the Sony speakers that the MS6520 replaced.

Break easily!

I bought a boat with 6 of these less than a year ago. The boat is stored in enclosed storage when not in use, probably have 40 hours on the boat. That little amount of sun has caused these speaker grills to become brittle and 3 of them broke today. It looks as if the center tweeter or whatever is not supported well enough by the plastic grille/cover.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

They cracked after 2 months on the boat. 4 of 6 had to be replaced. Limited sun and moisture exposure on all of the ones that needed to be replaced too. The grill materials are not marine sufficient, like other reviews here the grills crack and become useless.

Way too fragile!!!!

My boat came with six of them, they sound good but they are all breaking. The plastic covers don't hold up to the sun and once they crack they are useless. I"ve had my boat 2 months and the 3rd one just broke

Frustrated with grill replacements

I was on here looking for speaker grill replacements and noticed a lot of similar reviews. I have a 2 year old Sea Hunt, and need grill replacements for all 6 of my speakers. There are 4 that are broken/cracked, and the other 2 are brittle and about to break. Is there a recommended replacement that won't do the same thing?

Avoid if in the sun

Of course, most everything wears down faster when consistently exposed to direct sunlight. The big question is, how long has it been exposed. If it's a year, this is unacceptable. If it's 10 years or something like that, this would make sense and would be considered fairly normal. Plastic covers have all cracked

I have always been a JBL fan. These speakers sounded good but within a year and 4 months all 4 covers have cracked making them worthless. These were factory mounted on my Nautical Star boat I am also contacting them to inform them of my dissatisfaction with these speakers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
