I've used an Electrolux vacuum (canister with a beater bar and power head) for over 15 years. This Hoover appears to do as good of a job, if not better. The carpet actually feels softer after using the Hoover on it. And I got it for a fraction of the cost of most other vacuums.
I bought this sweeper about a year ago and within the first month had to replace the belt. Since then the belt has slipped off and yes it is very difficult to put back on. My main gripe is the noise. When running the sweeper the wheels squeal. Afraid to try to spray something on them as I don't want anything getting on my carpet. I too feel that the Hoover brand is not as great as you could previously rely on.
I would never buy this product again!! It has been one thing after another with this particular product. I should have taken my money, put it in the middle of the street and watched it blow away rather than on this product. The filters do not last very long, the heppa filter continues to blow out and not stay connected. I would rate this a minus if I could.
bought this last night . didn't even get finished using on living room carpet, belt broke. not happy with the quality. shocked that less than a few minutes use I am going to have to buy new belts. hope this is not the trend of how this product will function.
Excellent so far. Suction is unbelievable. Used my very old vac first and then followed same carpets with new Hoover and filled the cannister. Old vac was that bad and this new one is that good. Hose attachment is minor drawback in that it pulls against you firmly trying to shrink back into its storage shape while you are using it.
Literally. And that's a great thing. I look at other low star reviews on here, and I have to wonder how much of it is due to user error. I have seen so many vacuums discarded alongside the road and out of mild curiosity, have stopped more than once to investigate them, and nearly always, the rotary brushes are full of hairs/string/rubber bands, etc., or there are clogs inside of the main hosing or filters. People seem to think vacuums are these magical devices that you use to clean, and simply dumping the canister after it's full is enough. I tear my Hoover down 3-4 times a year and clean it out entirely. All the compartments, hoses, attachments, filters and the brush. And thus, my vacuum has been working without issue for nearly five years now.
Yep, we have had this product for just one year and the retractable cord keeps retracting on its own for no reason... I have to pull it out and hold the cord out manually just to use it! Yesterday the front filter tray kept popping out every time my husband tried to use it and despite our best efforts to keep the canister empty it keeps spewing dust (which seems quite unhealthy to me with an infant in our house). Worst part is that I have called customer service twice and left my # for a call back and still have not received a call after 6 hours. It's a shame to think the Hoover brand can't even make a vacuum that functions for a year... And even more a shame that I will have to shell out $$$ after just one year to fix it!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I just took this out of the box, read the book and tried it out. I do like the suction, but the retractable cord would not retract after the first time. Was so looking forward to this because of it's rating in the consumer report, but I have been left disappointed. Believe I will return it.
