Good sound but too bright for an alarm clock

The sound is great. We had it in the living room after opening it on Christmas morning. Everyone was dancing and rocking out. The FM reception is good and clear.
Setting the alarm is confusing for a number of reasons. For example, we missed the first day because there was no AM/PM selection - incrementing the hours past 12 displays the PM.
BIGGEST PROBLEM:
The display has only three settings - bright, brightest and off. The bright setting is like leaving a light on in the room - you can actually read in bed it is so bright.
In addition, the display is hard to read from any distance due to a lack of contrast with the background.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

not perfect but has merits

As with every Philips product I have purchased or played with, this one is the same. Philips products are great to look at but functionality could use a little bit more work.
Things to consider for future improvement that Philips should really consider when making a solid alarm clock.
1. Display is not bright enough. Digits are faint when you try to look at it from a short distance. you can't even see it in certain angles.
2. Loses time if unplugged for a few minutes and no battery back up!
3. Alarm siren is way too soft! Will not work if you are a deep sleeper. Have to use the radio on full blast if you want to wake up in time.
4. You can't set alarms by individual days. would be nice to be able to set alarm days according to personal preference instead of the standard programmed ones.
There are a few good things that this alarm clock has.
1. Impressive audio quality from suck a small package.
2. Syncs with Apple Ipod like a charm.
3. The sleek style and design is a very modern touch.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good features but poor usability

On paper this looks like a great product with many great features. In reality, it has a few aspects that make it hard to use as a bedside alarm clock. The first and most important is that the display is too bright with either backlight setting, so you need to reach over and turn the display on to see what time it is. The second is that the buttons are cheap and hard to use in the dark.
Pros: sound quality, aux in
Cons: poor brightness control, controls not usable in dark

Great sound, value, and functionality

This model iPod docking station is well worth the price due to its great sound and ease of use. I bought this item for my son who is now away in college and he loves it. He finds it to be compact enough to fit on his desk and provide the functionality that he needs.
Pros: compact, great sound, ease of use
Cons: clock display

Does EXACTLY what I wanted it to do

I was just looking for a simple clock radio with an iPod dock and solid sound. It was between this one and another Philips clock radio that was about $27 cheaper than this one. However, you get what you pay for and the DC320/37 model was worth every penny.
In an office setting, I barely have to crank the sound up very much because it carries very well. The bass is enough to provide character to my music, but tapered enough as not to disturb others in my office. Also, I love that I can utilize most of the Menu functions on my iPod from the remote.
I have yet to use the alarm function--mainly because I didn't really buy it for the alarm--and I must agree that the brightness setting can be a little irritating and you can't see the display from certain angles or distances. However, in an office setting where I have a million clocks in front of me, that's a mere casualty of war. All-in-all, VERY satisfied with this purchase!
I would recommend this to a friend!
