Amazing Zoom
on March 10, 2010

Pros: Still learning features of this camera, but love the zoom. It also takes great night shots, clear and sharp. The AA batteries are a plus, as is the LCD screen - very versatile. I would certainly recommend this camera to my friends and family.
Cons: The lens cover seems cheaply made, no way to attach a cord to keep from losing it, and the cover falls off easily. Some lag time between ability to take multiple shots.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: poor lens cover construction

Great buy for the money

I found it is a good general-use, everyday camera. I bought it because it is a smaller camera than my 50D and less heavy and easier to carry. The zoom is a wonderful feature! Good quality images, but not as sharp as my 50D.... and not as fast on continual shooting. Love the movie feature! Great video and sound!
Pros: add a pro

Almost a Pro

My experince was with 35mm film cameras all the way back to match needle cammeras. The SX20 makes shooting fun again.I use to carry a camera bag with lenses, filters, film and the other acces. Now i carry a small bag with camera one or two extra cards and a fresh set of batteries and i'm off and running. If i see something i want to shoot I'm ready. The Program Mode is really awesome. Yes you need to read the manual, but it just make it more fun.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent travel camera

After having cameras stolen in Greece and "dunked" in the Amazon, I don't travel with high end DSLRs. The SX20 IS is a wonderful traveling companion. Images are very high quality, especially using the "vivid" color setting. Without pushing the battery limits, 2900 mAh rechargeables produced >300 images. Using a capkeeper add-on prevents cap loss, but the lens cap is not well designed. Not being able to use screw-in filters is a negative (though some reviews indicate a 52mm filter can "screw-in", the lens-front grooves appear to be cosmetic and parallel, not screw-type). The IS allows very slow speed night shots and the Ultra-sonic motor is very fast focusing. Image processing speed prior to a next shot is a bit disappointing, but, much faster than the technology of a few years ago. The LCD is very bright, control options quite comprehensive and construction is solid. Overall, an excellent piece of equipment.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use

Another great Canon product

This camera has excellent optics and an LCD screen that is really sharp and has great color rendition. I really like being able to see the data in the viewfinder before shooting. In auto mode the camera has an uncanny ability to choose the best place to measure exposure and focus. There's only one thing that this camera needs to make it perfect and that is a meaningful manual. The get started manual doesn't hack it and details as to how to make this camera do all that it is capable of would be very useful - even if only on line.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
