not yet happy ... working on it

just purchased this primarily because I really rely on the EVF (and they seem to be rare these days) but am already unhappy with a few things ...
-- the lens cap is NOT connected to the camera. You will need to put it in your pocket or hold it in your hand???
-- even in auto mode, I cannot have the camera default to flash ... without physically raising the flash. Guess I just got used to my old camera popping it up for me.
-- Although the User's Guide p75 says that I should be able to access certain drive modes by pressing the function set button, nothing I do enables me to select them ... ????
-- I DO like that I can take pictures WHILE recording video ... though unfortunately the video halts for the duration.
-- I DO like the ease of putting the image review into multi-mode.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is the third canon digital camera that I've owned. I've had the S5, SX10 and now the SX20. I have to say that if you want sharp pictures buy the SX120 IS or try to find a new SX10. I'm not going to keep the SX20, really disappointed in the picture quality compared to those other camera's, not as sharp, too soft, not consistent. Maybe I got a friday camera or something, sure wish I had kept my SX10.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

No Instruction Book

I was extremely disappointed to find no instruction manual in the box when I bought the camera. There is a quick start guide, but it didn't say that you have to manually lift up the flash if you want to use the flash. The CD has the instruction manual on it, and you can print out the whole thing if you want to, or just the pages you think you might need, but that is extremely inconvenient. I didn't have a computer available when I really wanted to learn how to use the camera. I finally called Canon and they promised to print one out for me and send it to me in 4-6 weeks.

Pretty good but...

Overall a nice camera. I like the video capability and extreme telephoto. The articulating LCD is cool. Photo quality is so-so. Too soft and fuzzy for my liking. If I could have one wish for this camera is a firmware update with RAW capability and selectable jpeg compression level.
Pros: extreme telephoto lens, articulating lcd, hd video
Cons: poor picture quality

Nice HD videos, nice features like zoom etc.
BUT
Horrible focusing, forget focusing on zoom, manual focus is not easy to use and not trustable at all, bad picture quality, low light pictures are even not usable, bulky, battery life is miserable etc. etc.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, nice hd video
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life, horrible auto focus, terrible manual focus
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am a novice photagrapher and since I know the basics of how to use this camera. It was easy for me to use the programed features. The only draw back is using the advanced features, such as programming it myself. Most of that is due to me not being very comfortable setting it myself. I like this camera and really love the pictures it turns out. If you understand the best lighting for your picture and just use the programmed features, you will love this camera. I look forward to learning more about this camera and using it in the future.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, durable
Cons: Dim LCD, Heavy/Bulky
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very easy to use, excellent clear pictures, low light shots need additional lighting with flash. Camera has a slot to add another flash, plan on that in the future, for now I just turn on more lights. Love this camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, easy to use
