Good Features Disappointing Video

I like the features of the camera and the image quality. I particularly like the 20X zoom, image stabilization, and HD video capability. Compared to my Canon SD400 this camera is much more bulky and heavier, but I knew that when I bought the camera. I use 8x lithium batteries and am satisfied with the battery life. I do have a problem with the video and will be sending the 2nd camera in for repair for the same problem. Depending on lighting conitions and maybe refelections, I get vertical lines in the video. This condition has ruined several videos. I've now had 2 NEW SX20 IS cameras with the same exact symptoms in the course of 2 months.

I turned in an earlier review saying I was disappointed in the sx20 but decided to go back and buy another after returning the first one. I had great luck with my sx10 so was determined to fully check out the sx20. Sure enough as I suspected the first one was a dud, this second one is right on and super sharp, even better than the sx10. If you set this camera on 8 megapixel it's a lot shaper than set on 12, I tried this because on another camera test site this is what a tester experienced. I guess all camera's of the same model are not created equal so if you have one that's not doing what is expected of it go return it for another one, maybe you had one from a monday or friday production run. You know what they say," Don't buy a monday or friday produced car, get one made in the middle of the week"!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: no printed manual what a bummer

Nice Features, Horrible Still Quality

This camera has amazing zoom and takes amazing zoomed-in photos. The HD recording is of very nice quality and you can zoom while filming, plus! The options you can use on the camera seem endless. If you have time to set the camera up for the type of picture you're about to take, it should turn out pleasingly well. Those features alone make this camera a 5.
However, there is more to a point and shoot camera than zoom and video! ...Perhaps Image Quality: The Auto mode focus - does not work! The focusing in any mode is terrible and inconsistant. Shooting is Auto the focusing is awful, if you're lucky you'll get a good picture if the lighting is great otherwise the picture quality is horrible. The pictures in Auto as well as Action come out blurry, unfocused, and awfully grainy/noisy. I am deeply disappointed in this camera.
If you're looking for a camera to catch a picture of your toddler or pet, in my experience, this camera isn't going to do that for you. If you're looking for a camera to take a quick picture of that moment you want to capture, this isn't the camera. If you're interested in using the Auto mode at all, this isn't the camera for you.
Pros: Nice features/settings, good battery life, durable

Great Camera

I have owned a few other digital cameras and this one by far is the best that I have had. I got this as a Christmas gift from my oldest son and I have taken over 350 pictures already. This is a very user friendly camera and has a lot of special effects to make your pictures look much better. While I really wanted an SLR, this camera will be a great second choice. I would definately recomment this to anyone who is looking for a high quality, high performing digital camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: doesn't support other flash units
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have had other canon cameras and they get better I bought the 20 And a week later the 30 came out but that is ok. I have a 10 and that camera has taken over 100 gig of picts and movies. the movies are great for work and kids. Hockey players get thier goal and the parents ask me for a copy of thier kids making thier goals. I enjoyed the 10 and hope the 20 is better. so far I like the camera.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

Slow....slow...slow cycle time and poor quailty indoor and low light settings!!!! Using AUTO settings in low light or indoors produced fuzy poor quaility shots...forcing flash in all low light settings helped but didn't fix it!
Anti shake feature only works in bright light or daylight!
Camera came with a very thin operating manual for a novice! I was unable to change format to JPEG to speed up cycle time!!!
Pros: nice looking day camera.
Cons: slow poor low light camera!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
