After spending a couple of weeks finding all of the settings, I am very satisfied. The only thing I wish I could control better is the depth of field. The lens is perfect for point and shoot in that it has so much flexibilty . The downside is that there are limits with this type lens. I would love to take a portrait that pops out with the background blurred. The only option for me is to use lens blur in Photoshop or possibly attach a lens blur filter to the end of the lens. Overall though I love this little camera
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I own several cameras, but other than my older professional film type Canon this is by far, my best. This was a Christmas gift from my husband and I truly love it! It has fantastic features, it's easy to use, great for beginners and professionals and I cannot say enough about the quality. The photos and video are superb! The supplied software is also easy to use and has good options for editing both photos and video. The batteries supplied do not last very long, but I keep the good ones on hand anyway. It comes with everything you need to get going, except a memory card, but if you're like me you already own one. The built in flash works perfectly, but you can purchase an additional one if choose.
I do not think anyone would be disappointed with camera; I love mine!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I have had my SX20IS for three weeks and have had a chance to try out most of the frequently used features. I general I am pleased with the camera. The images are sharp with well rendered colors. The higher ISO settings produce some noise, but the noise is much less than any other digital camera I have used. The zoom lens is truly awesome. The image stabilization seems to work. The boot up time is pretty fast. The shutter lag isn't to bad when you prefocus.
The only criticism I have is the lack of a RAW option. Canon offers RAW images on some of its cameras that are less sophisticated than this one. I just don't understand why RAW options couldn't have been included with this camera. Certainly JPG images are fine most of the time, but every photographer will occasionally encounter situations where light or color are unpredictable enough that they would like a format that preserves ALL of the data so more latitude is available for later correction. In theory, Canon could fix this with a software update. HINT HINT
The camera could have been designed so it is easier to add filters. I occasionally like to use a polarizing filter.
The built in flash is useless in macro mode because the top of the lens obscures the light for the entire lower half of the image. To use the flash in macro you have to compose the subject in the upper half of the frame and just crop the lower half out.
I really like the AA battery power supply. I sometimes find myself a long way from an outlet, but I always have some AA batteries.
This camera is awesome!!!! I purchased it in order to take better action shots of my 3 kids. Also to be able to take better indoor pictures at plays, church, etc... It is so easy to use. Any parent, this is a must if you are looking for an upgrade from the smaller cameras. I found that I enjoy the different modes so much that I have went to different locations to take scenic shots as well. It is just fun to use and a great investment.

I was taking quality photos with this camera within minutes of putting the batteries in it. I have spent at least 3 to 4 hours with the camera on setting and going through the features and have taken about 100 photos, and the batteries are still showing a full charge. I find it fairly easy to use. Even as a novice, the instructions are fairly easy to follow. I do however hate the fact that it does not come with a printed owners manual. Just the one on the disk. It has a small quick user guide that pretty much allows you to point and shoot only. It has lots of wonderful features, some of which I do not understand being a novice. In the hands of someone more experienced, it should provide quality photos and video. I was very happy with the quality of the zoom and how close I could pull in distant objects. So far, it is exactly what I was looking for and more. Example: Took a few pictures of a cardinal about 100 feet away. Took several at different zoom settings and then used the digital zoom fully extended, and was amazed that I could see the pupil in the eye of the cardinal and the individual fine feathers on his head.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, no printed manual
Got this camera for Christmas and LOVE it! Very easy to use and takes spectacular photos. The one thing I do NOT like is the fact that the flash does not flip up automatically . It must be raised manually, and at that time it will fire if needed provided you set it to automatic. Just a habit that I will need to get into...flip up the flash as the camera is turned on. That is the only thing that doesn't make sense to me...other than that I cannot say enough about this camera. I have 2 boys who play sports and I needed a camera that will take great action shots and has a high quality zoom. Can't wait to take it to the next basketball game!
Highly recommend this product!
