The Good & Bad
on October 21, 2009

Actually there's a lot of Good and very little Bad to the MP560. I'll start with the Bad to get it out of the way:
1) You can't use super-cheap paper. I generally use the cheapest paper I can find for home / draft printing. Unfortunately with this printer, the ink tends to bleed through, so be prepared to at least buy a decent grade of paper.
2) No ad-hoc wireless. There's no way of knowing this from the box (gotta buy it first). This created a problem for me since this printer was meant for my daughters on-campus apartment (university wifi - no router).
3) No USB cable included. Not a big deal, but noticably missing.
-------
Now the 'pros'...
1) VERY nice print quality
2) Duplex printing
3) Excellent scanning
4) Relatively quiet, moderately fast - at least compared to my printer
5) Great pricing (got mine on sale)
6) LOTS of options for config (except ad-hoc wireless)
7) Extremely simple setup for both wireless and USB. -I've seen a couple reviews citing problems, but had no problem with it.
All in all, I'm very happy with this printer.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Canon is definately preferred choice

I just recently purchased the Canon MP560 and am truly shocked how much Canon has improved. This printer is easy to set up in a wireless network, just takes about a minute to do so if that. Very fast printing, faster than any HP I have ever had. Easy to understand color display menu screen and all other buttons. Amazing bottom paper load for printing, a lot better than the old top load printers. Canon is definately a top choice for printers and all-in-ones. I have no reason to switch back to hp again. This is an amazing multifuntion printer and I am very impressed.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: no cons at all

Very Good Value

I have been very pleased since purchasing the MP560 several months ago. Although there are some features lacking, the printer represents an excellent value in the price range, and suits my needs perfectly.
The printer is used in a home office / small business environment, and is used mostly for printing text and copying, with occasional use as a scanner and photo printer. Set up was simple, but I do not use this as a wireless printer.
I have found the overall print quality to be very good with both text and graphics, and photos. Although I did try some adjustments, the default settings were acceptable.
The design and construction of the printer is excellent: the location of controls and receptacles is logical, operation is intuitive, and replacement of individual ink cartridges is straightforward. The case is nicely finished, doors and trays open and close smoothly, and operating noise is acceptable.
Attention was obviously given to design and aesthetics. The printer closes up completely when not in use, helping keep the control panel and platen dust-free, and the out-feed tray drops open automatically when printing.
A fax and and a document feeder have been left off the MP560, but they are not really missed with my use. A document can be scanned and e-mailed if necessary, and document feeders on printers in this price range never seem to work well anyway.
Ink usage does seem a bit high, but not unacceptably so, at least for my amount of use. My one complaint with this printer is not being able to set black and white printing as a default. There is a 'greyscale' setting, but not as a default. There may be a way to do this, but I have not found out how.
Overall, this is a great printer for the price, well constructed with good printing quality.

GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR MP530

Set up went well except for being able to use the wireless connection. That was a total frustration.
The quality of prints is excellent, it's realatively fast, and quieter than some. The separate paper trays for photo paper and plain paper is unique. I like the wheel for job selection, and the functions are pretty easy to figure out.
I want to see how much ink I use to a ream of paper or how many reams of paper to ink refill. I'm concerned about operational costs. I want to write a second review then.
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky

Very Satisfied!

Installation in Windows was a snap. I didn't notice the MP560 was WiFi when I bought it, but that was a pleasant surprise! I normally attach printers to my PC and share them so my daughter and my laptop can use them. The down side is my PC must be booted to use shared printers. That is not a problem with the WiFi feature of the MP560. My network is secured with WPA protection which is not a problem for the MP560. It supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 password protection schemes and the wizard walks you through setup so simple a newbie could easily do it.
I am an avid Linux user and I was very disappointed to find out there was no support for Linux. Even a call to Canon Tech support just confirmed that fact. HOWEVER!, Canon Asia has recently released the drivers! They have DEB, RPM and Source files sitting there waiting for you. I installed the printer and scanner drivers in a snap. They work perfectly with my protected WiFi network too. Now I don't have to reboot to the other Operating System to use the printer.
Print quality and speed is everything you would expect from Canon, nothing less than exceptional. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out the MP560 can do double sided printing. That had always been a feature reserved for much more expensive printers. The independent ink tanks were also a major selling point for me. I have always hated throwing away expensive color cartridges with only one empty tank. Now I can just replace the single inexpensive empty tank. The best part was I could clear all the clutter off my desk of a color printer, photo printer and large scanner with just the small footprint of my new Pixma MP560 (that works much better!).
Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup, easy to use, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, wifi enabled!, double sided printing

Great Product

Having tried many printers on the market that are wireless and have two sided printing the easiest to set up was the Canon MP 560. It akes you through each step and never leaves you. Some of the competitve brands make you download drivers for your new machine as well as not being able to set up the wireless feature. Canon has done a great job and the printer does what it is suppose to do. Using Windows 7 required no downloads and worked flawlessly.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use

Now I Like it; at first, I didn't.

I previously complained that the printer software couldn't find the printer on my network, even though the printer and the PC were connected to the network. It was a perplexing problem. I called Canon Support, and the helpful gentleman eventually zeroed in on the "problem," which was that my Belkin Router settings had MAC Addressing enabled, and the printer's MAC address wasn't entered on the Belkin MAC Address list. After addng the printer's MAC address (which is found by scrolling through the "Settings/Wireless LAN Settings" on the printer), we went through the setup again, and everything worked fine.
The printer, itself, works like a charm: quiet and quick (after it goes through it's initial warmup).
The reason I got this printer was the wireless feature. Now I can place the printer nearly anywhere - not just next to my desktop PC - and I don't need a separate "printer server" to print from my laptop.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: no mac address instructions, no bluetooth capability, initial warm-up time
I would recommend this to a friend!
