We brought this machine for it's load size capability. With children in the house you never have a normal wash load size, it can go from a few items to several hundred pounds of cloths. We soon found out that it had more features than we had thought. The smart feature this machine had were things like auto load balancing, auto water level set and desudsing feature. When you have children who are old enough to wash their own cloths. They general don't think about anything but throwing them in and starting the machine. Amounts of soap, water, and type of cloths are just things not to worry about. My wife found out that the loads came out near perfect every time the kids did the wash. Our water bills didn't go up there was never an excess amount of soap still in the cloths after drying and best of all the machine was still in it's same place and had not danced all over the basement due to an unbalanced load. While we no longer have the children at home, my wife still loves her machine after more than Nine yr of use.

front load efficiency in a top load washer

I've been told that front load washers need to sit directly on a very solid foundation if tey are to operate without "walking" around your laundry room. That's why we bought a top load washer that is otherwise the same as a front load. We like it alot. However, in the last month, after 5+ years of of dutiful service for our family of 6, the main bearing has gone out and we get replace either the washer or the bearing.Currently the washer still works, but it makes a lot of noise, and we'll have to do something.
