I just got my printer and I was supprised at the poor quality of color it produced. Even with using profiles and choosing the correct paper type, the printing was less than par. There are no ICC profiles to down load for this printer making it hard to get quality prints. Not my best choice in buying a printing product.

when printing on discs it will work fine for awhile the come up with error lites. have to fool around with it for a few min. go thru trouble shooting. then start all over from the beginning. pretty hard on ink too. I only print in black but it uses all the colors to do that. so you have to replace them all. not cheap to do. phone help is good.

Great prints but way too slow

Great prints, but at a huge time difference than advertised! High quality 4x6" prints take 90 seconds; 8x10 take 4 minutes; best quality takes 7 minutes. I could only get a 4x6 print in 15 seconds with unacceptable image quality. Too bad.

ALMOST as good as the R260!

I use two Epson R260s, one Epson R280 and three Epson Artisan 50 printers. Almost exclusively I print CDs and DVDs on these printers. The R260s have been fantastic--they just keep running and running with the least amount of down-time--although a tad bit slower. The R280 does a pretty good job, and the Artisan 50s are good with one exception: When the printer wants to regenerate the ink cartrage after a certain number of prints, it will STOP in the middle of the print job and wait for me to press the ink button to regenerate. It thus ejects the unfinished CD/DVD and I LOOSE the CD/DVD I was printing. I use CISS ink systems on all printers and NEVER have to worry about running out of ink. This is the ONLY way to go for ink!! It's WAY cheaper and the quality seams to be the same. On my current Windows XP computer that I am using, I can't use the Artisan 50 drivers or I will get Print Spool errors and cause all sorts of downtime. So I use the R280 print driver instead. I still get an error when I hit "Print" but this is easy to ignore and causes no downtime. I'm about to switch over to my new Windows 7 computer, and perhaps I can then use the Artisan 50 print drivers. . .perhaps. Never-the-less, these printers are great work horses with excellant quality and I recommend them all!

It didn't hold up to dvd printing

It was great when it works. I use this printer to print on dvds. The dvd tray no longer works on a consistent basis. It prints on paper just fine. I replaced it with the Artisan 830.

Awful!

Just awful. All prints look faded. No contrast. No color density. Look nothing like what I'm seeing on the PC screen. Attempts to use brightness and contrast controls are frustrating because you can't see the results until you waste more ink and paper on another lousy print.

Epson Artisan 50- Great printer
on January 27, 2012

I own 10 Artisan 50 printers and use them for printing CD, DVD and Blu-Ray discs. They do an excellent job printing discs! I have run thousands of discs thru these printers and would recommend them to anyone who wants to print exceptional quality discs. Great Printer!
Cons:
The printer driver software changed. Previously I owned 10 R260 printers and print one face label to all 10 printers at the same time. This worked perfectly with XP. When the R260 was discontinued, I went with the Artisan 50 and updated the computer these would run on to windows 7. Epson needs to rewrite the driver to work the same way as it did with XP. I could not print to all the printers at the same time with Windows 7…the print spooler would crash once I tried to run the 3rd printer. I had to retire the new computer and go back to XP. All the Artisan 50’s work on the XP and have since the Artisan 50 came out! I have to keep running an old computer with xp just to print discs! But it is worth it…love the quality the Epson Artisan 50 has.
