Too low!

Bought for a total kitchen remodel. With an 8’ ceiling, we are hitting our heads. Need options to raise.

Hard to install

The hood looks great but is difficult to install compared to European brands. Also you need an 8.5’ ceiling height if you want to get 30” of clearance between the hood and countertop. An 8’ ceiling will only get you 25” of clearance which is a little low.

Looks awesome; works very well

Be careful when ordering this. This is way too long for an 8 foot ceiling. I had to get it trimmed down to accommodate a low ceiling (and that was difficult to find someone who could do the job properly.) This is better suited for a 9-10 ceiling height. (Had to get two light fixtures replaced soon after it was installed.). The clearance from the countertop is 30 inches after 8 inches was trimmed off.

Beware and be informed

Pros: Two position lights are bright and the fan works well at any speed you choose to use -- overall appearance is really nice. Does exactly what it is intended to do.
Cons: Beware; standard ceiling height in most homes is 8' and your installation height will be 24" maybe 25" PERIOD. To have any flexibility on choosing the height above your cooking surface your ceiling has to be 8'5" to 9'5".Unit requires 8" duct but try to fit that in between 2x10 ceiling joists after you mount the 2x4's required for support (yes I know that one of the supports COULD HAVE been modified to make it work but I'm going by the manufactures instructions). Instructions also say you can transition to a 3 1/4 x 12" duct but the manufacture doesn't sell it and I only found one place in the U.S. that had the 3 1/4 x 12 wall cap required to vent it outside because standard for everything is 3 1/4 x 10" ( so it was expensive).According to page 9 of the instructions IF you do install the 3 1/4 x 12" wall cap with damper it alone will have used up 75' of the 100' max duct length allowed so take that as a big WHOA also. The supplied screws are of very poor quality (all 70 of them). Attaching the upper duct covers to the duct cover support is very difficult because the 6 tabs are small and when one side slid in place the other side didn't -- it became a frustrating game for the two experienced contractors.
Life is an education and you may get one once you buy this Island Chimney Vent Hood before you consider all of the above.

Good hood, difficult to install

the hood is 36" across and 26" deep. It's deeper than a standard countertop, so if your range is in a 24" deep island, it's difficult to balance where the hood should sit above the stove. Installation instructions indicate it should be no higher than 30" above the stove, however, given its depth, that means your head will bang against it all the time. I'm remounting mine to be 36" above the range, and moving it back 2-4" from the front of the stove.

Elegant addition!

i remodeled my kitchen and added an island. I researched range hoods online. Although the price of this one was a bit higher than the others, I went with the GE because of the elegant look, reputation and ratings. I am glad I spent the extra money. On the low setting it works well, on the highest setting it really works well. I read that it was "noisy" on the highest setting, but I didn't find that at all.

Works great but height could be an issue.

Total remake of kitchen. Placed cooktop in island and therefore needed hood. Installer said 30" is the max height for efficiency. That is live able. After install is actually 25.5" and not good for me. I'm 5'6" and keep bumping my head. Hoping GE will help me to insure this is the max and if not help work with the installer.

The lights keep malfunctioning

Great look, great function, but the lights keep going out. GE techs have replaced the lighting components twice within 7 months, and they just went out again. Very frustrating!
