I've used this for several weeks now. Before I retired I dealt with LOTS of ruggedized equipment for the Special Forces. So I am familiar with the costs and tradeoffs of ruggedization. Other than obvious features. Pros - S pen works seamlessly Touch interface works seamlessly GPS functions well Camera is not degraded Slides into cargo pants pockets easily, no rubber "grabbing" Good gripping surface Easy to convert from full case to half case w/ screen protection Front cover snaps to back cover easily Allows quick access to all common ports Transparent screen protector easy to clean
Cons - Some might object to weight of full case, but a good defense costs
I've been VERY PLEASED w/ my Otterbox Defender on my Samsung Note 8. Although I have not tried a "drop test" it seems to protect well. I only gave it 4 stars for protection based on not knowing. IF I drop it from high up and it survives I'll give it 5 stars. I easily slide it into my cargo pants pockets and can carry it around all day without worry. I do a lot of "stuff" outside, working on tractors, walking in the woods, minor logging, and constantly "bump" things. With the Otterbox I no longer worry.
Now if Otterbox could just: Fashion a lithium battery into the front case Put in a couple of reinforced screw holes to attach a carrying strap Other colors of the cover (yellow, orange, camo) It would be even better.
And if Otterbox offers a fully waterproof version (Armor) which I can use the Spen with I'll get one and can recommend it to all.
To date this is one of the best cases made for the Samsung note 8.0. Otterbox really paid attention to the details on this one,one example is the way the lip for holding the silicone on the polycarbonate outer shell wraps all the way around, as opposed to the case for the note 2 which does not have the lip all around and causes the silicone to become deformed at the corners after a while. However the outer silicone cover could be just a little thicker and the clips for holding the part that protects the screen could be more robust . But in my opinion it it still the best case available for the Samsung note 8.0 right now.
Works just like every other defender case great protection for the note 8. The one problem I have with this case is it offers no opening for the memory card slot. If you have a tab and need constant axcess to that slot you have to remove the entire case to change sd cards major pain.
Enjoy high quality and durability of Otterbox when I travel, however, design features do not allow access to micro-sd card without disassembly and clear cover creates bubbles against table cover visible when tablet is not on.
Pros: High quality, Durable
Cons: design: have to disassemble to access microsd, design: clear cover creates bubbles against tablet
IT IS A WELL BUILT CASE VERY DURABLE AND STYLISH PRICEY BUT WELL WORTH THE MONEY YOU SPEND FOR IT. ALREADY DROPPED MY CASE ACCIDENTALLY NOT EVEN A SCRATCH
I like to see a variety of color and design for the Samsung devices or any other brand. Company are only focusing on IPhones to build cases for with out thinking, there are a lot of other devices in the world. Also it would have made an inpatient customer (like me) life easier to provide these items at the store, instead of waiting for the slow shipping to get to the house.
Easy installation. Everything snapped together without a hitch. Once intstalled the case feels sturdy. With the stand/cover in place is really protects the screen. I wish the rubber surround extended to cover the stylus area, and the center screen button, as in my "Gumdrop" case. Also would want a lens cover/protector for the rear camera. Alli n all, a well thought out and executed case.
I own a Otterbox for my Galaxy S4 and for my Galaxy Note 8, I will never own another brand as long as Otterbox maintains thier current standards. I am a law enforcement professional and also served for four years in the United States Marine Corps, why does that matter? Because I am not gentle on my phones or tablets.....not at all. And the Otterbox has never let me or my equipment down, it'll take what you throw at it and come back smiling. The cases (Defender) are a bit bulky but I like knowing I have something sturdy in my hand, you can feel the quality. I have most recently got my wife to convert to Otterbox for her Iphone too and see no difference in the quality. Otterbox is costly but worth every penny, you get what you pay for!
