Bought this for my 90 year old mother and it worked very well for 3 years. She loved using it instead of her larger oven. BUT it now doesn't reach temperature. The preheating beeps but the temperature hasn't been achieved. We are disappointed as it's only been 3 years. I will try the service number tomorrow. But surely we expect more from our appliances than 3 years. I would recommend this to a friend but say that it has a lifespan of 3 years. Mum would've given 5 stars but... 3 year lifespan took 2 stars away. I will post another review after speaking to service.

The oven is designed to preheat to 75% of the desired temperature, then indicate that it's done preheating. However, we want to make sure there isn't anything else that may be occurring that we can help with. We do have an account for you in our system. We'll be sending you an email shortly. Got this because it "looked good". First off the convection fan was always loud, did an exchange and even the replacement had a loud fan. Fan continued to get louder over time and 2 Years later, convection fan failed. Also, the control buttons or horrible. You have to turn the knobs incredibly slows for them to change function, or temperature or time. You turn them what would be normal speed and they do nothing or over-react. Lastly, the stop/start button is the same, finicky. Overall, what a hunk of junk especially for the cost and time to failure.

I purchased this oven and really loved it. However after 23 months, much like many many others, the convection fan stopped spinning. I tried silicon based lubricates on the fan shaft and that did not keep it working as intended. If you stand the oven on its side, the fan spins as intended, but you can't bake that way.

Great Oven for Speed, Versatility, Size and Function....but....

We used an older model Breville toaster oven (BOV800XL Smart Oven) for about 5 years. When the convection fan went out after 13 months, there was of course no warranty and the replacement part was too expensive. I am only posting this comment because I see that the convection fan failure (from another post) is still an issue. I suspect some of the "pros" of the Breville lineup still exist as well as a few "cons." PRO features: fast cooking (when the convection fan worked) auto timer, size (could use it for most any oven need), the settings (roast, toast, bagel, oven, broil, warm, slow cook) and temp (from 120 degrees to 500 degrees), interior light, removeable crumb tray, top handle opening, glass front and CUSTOMER SERVICE. (Even though they didn't send me a free fan motor...which I thought should have considering it was expensive appliance that should have not failed.... they did send a new crumb tray and were responsive and courteous). CONS: Difficult to clean. You have to wipe this down after each use, including the glass front. If something does gets baked on then it is impossible to remove. If it was just 2" wider (inside) then a 9x13 pan with handles would fit. Convection fan was very loud. SUGGESTION: a second oven rack capacity would have been nice SUMMARY; I used this oven everyday and it is now at a secondary home. Overall, it was a great oven and I hope the newer models have eliminated most of the "con" features as I am in the market for another Breville.
This is my second Breville Oven. It does everything I need and in Florida it eliminates the need to use the big oven in the stove which overheats the kitchen.
I love my oven . I don't use my regular stove oven at all any more. Want to thank a couple of the people that works there for all their help in getting my replacement and that I can now finally use my oven. It is fantastic. I will be telling more people about the breville smart oven. Ty
I loved this oven. It was an expensive splurge, but I thought it was worth it...and then it started malfunctioning. First, the on button would only work intermittently. Then it started shutting off while cooking. And finally it stopped entirely and is just...dead. I thought maybe the wall outlet was faulty, so I tried it in several other rooms in the house. Nope, it's a goner. An appliance this expensive should last longer than a couple of years. I see others have had the same problem. Wish I'd read the reviews first.
