The improved design shows description directly on glass door as to where to place rack for what kind of cooking. Additionally, the knobs move more smoothly than that of the older design. The instruction booklet is clear, maybe redundant in places, not sure why.
Our older design lasted approximately 4-5 years before the electrical element (sensor) gave out. I hope that the current element(sensor) is a more durable one. I will note that in our county SCE (Southern California Edison) has had many scheduled power outages to change telephone poles and lines causing the continuous on/off of our house's electrical system. I would not doubt that there is some effect on the "tiring" of electrical elements and circuit breakers!

The Quality Caught Up With the Advertising Language

We were given our first Breville Convection Smart Oven Model BOV800XL /C in 2014. The door magnets pulling the tray from the oven worked perfectly. The heating/toasting elements did their job on everything from a piece of toast to a frozen pan of lasagna.
The control chip and panel were gateways to a
private hell. They stopped working right after two weeks and deteriorated for 7 years until our unit was essentially dead.

Two of those years we cared for my elderly mother in law. We had toast every morning and heated things too. The family bought the house in 1971. That old oven was the second one in 50 years.
We're all going green right? We're going to save not only the planet, but our species, right? YES!
The endless buying of inexpensive, or expensive throw-away consumer items is great for corporate bottom lines but bad for our budgets and death to our environment.
I looked at many Breville Toaster Oven repair videos on YouTube. I could pull it off, but I sent our old one to Breville repair. They binned our old one and sent us a new one.
The new one works great. The buttons push and operate as they should, I can turn the noisy convection fan on and off as I please.
To be brief, instead if getting another Beta test Toaster Oven, we got the one Breville should have been selling in 2014. Will our family be saying, "Wow! what a great old appliance, I'll keep it." as thet clean out our estate? That remains to be seen.
