Our client is on their third warranty replacement and the product is barely 6 months old, shocking operational reliability. Paper feed problems on the original printer and Warr. replacement and this third one - where do I start. Confidence in HP really damaged by the whole experience and our client completely dissatisfied.

Avoid

This printer is without a doubt the worst product of its kind I've ever bought - NEVER AGAIN. Mechanical performance is mediocre - one machine replaced already for paper non-feed. Lots of time wasted and noise made recycling itself with every job. Software is very poorly conceived and highly intrusive in your operating system, making cleaning it out when necessary a complete nightmare. Cancels print jobs when ink needs to be changed. Machine needs to be disconnected, unplugged and restarted to clean out and reconfigure for continuing the print job. You need to baby-sit each job. Buy this printer and you are asking for trouble.

Poor mechanical performance

I use the printer mainly to print MS Word and Adobe Acrobat documents having text, often with embedded images.
Once it gets going and feeds the paper, the print quality and the printing speed are very good.
The main problem, which renders it terribly inefficient to a point of being disfunctional is the paper feed. The paper feed fails to take up the paper over and over again, forcing constant vigilance over the print job until it is finished, to open the tray and replace the paper each time the non-feed causes the orange paper light to come on and the processing to stop. This is a very old problem with HP printers and one would have thought by now on a Pro machine it would have been corrected, but this is not the case. Don't buy unless you have lots of time to baby-sit your print jobs.

Banding after 13 months

Used this printer for 12 months banding apeared changed one cart but still banding.
Ran the cleaning program 3 times it then said I needed new print heads? Checked warranty and it had ended 12 month this was the 13th.
I think a printer should last longer than 12 months especially after only used 1 set of carts!
I dont think I will be buying HP again. The printer was fine when it printed okay but the quality could of been better for images.

Pro 8000 Wireless

Bought to replace colour laser printer in small office, three computers. Excellent print quality on mixed business pages of text and pictures. Ink appears to last about what HP suggest so is cheaper to run than our laser printer. Build quaiity appears to be very good for the price. Used for about 8 months and 3500 pages with no problems. The only down side is the useless software which comes with the printer driver, I don't need 500Mb of stuff just to run the printer and it reduces the performance of the printer. Could not get even the basic Pro8000 ( 25Mb) driver to run properly on a XP machine, tried an old HP990 driver, works perfectly and generates pages much faster than the proper driver. Thinking about using the old driver on our newer Vista machines.
I would recommend this to a friend!

a wireless printer, easy enough to set up, simple instructions, ran first time. Duplexer facility is a must have. Quality copies on standard A4 and photo grade paper.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good wireless with limits

Have 2 of these, one at home and one with a student in college. The one at home works great on our wifi network but the one at college does not (possibly too many wireless networks). Am running with Win XP, Vista, Win 7 on a variety of computers and 2 different wifi modems. The printer was easy to set up, print quality is good, number of pages per cartridge is reasonable. I don't understand, however, why this printer does not have a firmware upgrade scheduled for use with iOS 4.2 or for ePrint. It is a real limitation of an otherwise good printer.
